Superb Mk4

@PaulinkeighleyWhats the urgency to change the car, Paul? Are you on a rental?

Impatience and desire to get that new car feeling if I'm totally honest! I still like my Sportline Plus but I haven't had to put a car through an MOT for over 40 years and I've got a bit of a psychological block about it, ridiculous I know. I'm only 2 and a bit years into a 4 year pcp but when I last checked I can swap for a new L&K (not the 280) for only £15/month more than I currently pay which seemed good to me. The more snippets I see about the Mk 4 the less enamoured I am, especially as I fear the on the road price is going to add a significant amount to my monthly payments making it unjustifiable.

I am tempted to go for a radical change in colour, anyone seen the Royal Green with tan leather? Very different from anything I've had previously but I fancy a change!

  • Picked the car up yesterday, pleased with the colour!

  • Probably a gamble to catch the last of the old school buyers. There's not many cars left these days like the Octavia/Superb and especially as a Combi.   Everyone is pushing the SuV rout

I was talking with the Sales Director from my local dealer few weeks ago, he said the Mk4 should be officially revealed by octobre or Novembre this year in France. I assume it should be the same date all other the world.

Well I contacted a helpful dealer and they made me an offer that seems too good to be true so have bitten their hand off and ordered the 190 L&K in Royal Green with cognac interior. The cost per month has fallen by very nearly 20% since I enquired in May, combination of factors, lower interest rate than before (odd when you consider UK interest rates are rising steadily), an extra £1k contribution from Skoda, lower settlement figure and the value of my Sportline Plus holding up remarkably well. 20 weeks delivery time but a fair chance will come in under that so should be a nice Christmas present. The market is nuts at the moment but I still can't fathom why it's suddenly so much cheaper to change. Out of curiosity I asked for figure for switching to a 280 L&K but that was a lot more money, more than the difference in list price could account for. I guess it's just possible they're discounting non 280's a fair bit to fill the order books before shutting down the mk3 production line but whatever is going on I'm one happy bunny tonight!

Surprisingly, the official storyboard video states a max power of 195kw (265HP) on Superb 4. I don’t know what it really means…🤔

- Is it the total power of the iV version whereas the current TSI280 has no equivalent yet on the Mk4 ?

- There won’t be a « big » engine anymore? Too detrimental for the VW Passat or even VW Arteon or Audi A6?

Future will tell.

Edited by Bap33

195 kW will be the top 2.0 TSI. It'll have less power than the outgoing model presumably because of stricter emissions regulations (Euro 7 coming in 2025).

The side of the Passat and Superb look identical. I'm going to very disappointed if the only exterior difference between the two are the front and rear but that's the way things seem to be shaping up.

Might (or might not) help, but both Scala and Kamiq facelift have been announced, and various images and video including interior.   As it appears lot of latest design of features and in the cabin is common to both, there is good chance similar thinking will apply to revised Superb

Interiors seem to have been spun out of Enyaq

Essence spec (basic cloth)

Selection studio spec (black cloth upholstery)

Selection Loft (grey upholstery)

Selection Lodge (suedia upholstery with copper design bits)

Selection Dynamic (suedia and dark)

Monte Carlo with carbon leather upholstery, rather dark interior

Well I was worried that if I went with another mk3 I'd miss out on a fabulous new interior but if it turns out to be a variation on the Scala/Kamiq  dash then I'll be mightily relieved, doesn't look any thing special to me.

Interior (mostly) revealed in this video - dashboard looks very Octavia inspired which is a good thing to me

I have seen somewhere that both the Passat and the Superb will have a 690 litre boot so it hints at least that they will be very similar.

Below the central air vents, that black plastic piece, it's there to hide the climate controls. Thankfully, those haven't been integrated into the screen. The interior looks a tad cheap because it's a pre-production prototype. It'll look a lot nicer in production version.

I hope it will look better.
I´m not keen on this « edge design » for the moment.

It gives me the impression of a jump back in the beginning of the 80s. Citroen BX or GSA… or Renault Super5… 😱

I cross my fingers (and toes if it helps) we have something better…

Sadly the wagon variants will b the exact same car, just with a different face & butt between the Superb & Passat.

Both will b built at the same factory, on the same line.

There is no new Passat sedan, unlike the Superb liftback.

So nothing to share there.

The mk3 Superb is the last of it's kind.  It was different and a size larger than B8 Passat.

The mk4 Superb is not unique anymore.

Do you mean:

- There won’t be any new Passat Hatchback? Probably ´replaced’ by Arteon?

- The next Passat Estate and Superb 4 Estate have the same chassis and wille therefore offer somehow the same inner space?

- No Passat sedan or liftback model, and the Arteon has been axed.

- Yes, the Passat was designed side-by-side with with the Superb so the packaging will be closer than before seen. Doubt it'll be 100% the same but near on identical.

I suspect they will drop 4x4 option as well.

I really hope they won't do that.

It's one of the main selling points if you live somewhere with regular snow or remote conditions.

No, there will definitely b 4x4 version with the mk4.

- Yes. No, the Arteon doesn't replace it.

- Yes. The mk4 will have less shoulder room than the current mk3 Superb.

Even the ´big’ TDI engine has its max power reduced. No TDI200 anymore, ´only’ TDI193… not a big différence, but mentally a dowgrading. Exactly as when TSI280 was replaced by TSI272.

You would need to be fanatic of excessively complicated engineering to want to buy a TDI with emissions equipment meeting euro7

The way I see it, is that more complications are just more things to go wrong, early Superb diesels plodded on for years, but I dread to think of cost of keeping one of these new complicated ones going for 10-15 years.

Which going by the above info will now be TSI 265, although the TSI 190 seems to be going up to TSI 204

The TSI 204 will be a plug-in hybrid. Most probaby TSI150 (1.5l) + 54HP from electric motor.

It doesn’t come from the 2.0 TSI190.

It's the 220 (162 kw) that is being down graded to 204 (150 kw.

That's not what the chart was is showing, it clearly states petrol 2.0 TSI as 204 (the other 204 is then shown as the 1.5 plug in hybrid).
