Superb 280 L&K

Featured Replies

Dear fellow members/owners,

I have owned my 2016 superb 280 dsg for roughly 7 months now and pleased the car has been trouble free.

I was wondering if fellow members & owners could shed some light on parts and components which could require a closer eye on, anything notorious on these models that should be checked regularly?

(anything in regards to engine related, engine mounts, cooling, suspension/steering, dsg, haldex, electrical parts, chassis related etc)

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks for your time.

As long as fluids and filters  oil & filter, DSG, haldex and consumables such as brake discs, have been changed regularly,  it will be fine. It's 7 years old so depending on mileage, check the shock absorbers don't weep and some suspension  bushes may need changing, especially  if it's had a hard life, ie driven unsympathetically over sleeping policemen. If you have a sunroof or  you may want to check the drain channels are working properly.

DSG service @ each 40,000 miles or sooner. (if a 6 speed DQ250 DSG)

Haldex service done properly not just oil change each 30,000 miles / 3 years or sooner.

@toot Haldex done properly?  Could  you explain please?

Cheers.

there's a filter mesh in there that really ought to be changed / cleaned at the same time as the haldex oil changes.

Personally, mine feels (at 110k miles / 172k km) that it needs brakes looking at - the rears really are close to the limits - and the cambelt is due. Haldex oil will be changed (again) at the next service. Cambelt is being done a tick ahead of time (suggested is 180k kms for this specific model). Might also get around to doing the B6s and an ARB to tighten things up, there are probably some bushings that are dodgy, but I can't really feel it. Having said that, I know on the A2 it didn't feel bad per se, but it was a hell of a lot nicer to drive after messing with certain bushings and other suspension components.

I've seen some cars with monster mileages here on the market - right I can find 2 2019 cars with over 300000 kms on the clock. And they still cost €10k...

TÜV seems to say springs and then batteries, along with brakes.

Fits with mine - it's already had a spring replaced and the brakes too.

Leaking water pump is a big and expensive failing on the 888 engine. Our 280 is about to go in to have it replaced; I’ll be £875 lighter on Monday….🙄

Mine is on about 95,000 miles now. I have had a few problems, nothing disasterous - touch wood! Haldex pump failed at 20k miles, replaced under warranty. I do my own Haldex oil changes now, including cleaning the gauze filter on the pump which is full of black fibres each time. The Skoda dealer will just change the oil, not clean the gauze, which IMO is no good. Had an issue with a wheel bearing at about 35k miles, again replaced under warranty and so far all the others have been fine. The usual brakes and tyres of course.

I also had hassle with fuel leaking from the filler cap in hot weather, a problem with the evap canister and the valve on the engine, but both were fairly cheap and easy to replace.

I had a leaking front DCC shock which seems to be a common issue, replaced at great expense a couple of years ago. Fortunately the other side seems fine for now. And I have now had 3 out of 4 suspension springs break. Which is pretty poor but fairly cheap if fiddly to replace.

In terms of the core components, engine, dsg and all the many electronic gizmos you get with an L&K, it has been reliable.

I have had mine for 6 years. I broke a front spring. I do not recall how and when. I drove for miles before having it checked. All I got was a squeak when turning in one direct. The harder you turned the more it squeaked. Various test rides in the garages car park revealed nothing. Detected when it when up on the ramp. One changed under the extended warranty and I paid for the other.

No other issues. Running Continental sport contact 6 XL tyres now. Highly recommended. No noticeable increase in noise and ride. Traction is well superb, wet or dry.

A very big thank you to everyone who took the time to reply & post experiences and knowledge.

I will surely make a note of areas where a closer look is needed and of course keeping on top of dsg & haldex and other maintenance intervals.

Many thanks again 🙏🏼

The other common issue is the waterpump and thermostat housing starts leaking
