Broken plastic sensor - rear passenger bottom suspension arm

Featured Replies

Hi there.

I have been installing Bilstein b14 coilovers on my 2018 Skoda superb 206kw 4x4. When I tried to move the bottom suspension arm on the passenger side I snapped a plastic arm on a sensor attached to the arm.

Does anyone know what this sensor is for?

Oh dear - that's a levelling sensor used by the DCC suspension system and the headlights for aim.

U need to get that replaced.

Thanks JR.

I don't have DCC suspension.

I will try superglue on it and check in a couple of days to see if it has set. If not I'll buy a new sensor (assuming U can't just buy the arm.

I don't drive at night much so if the lights are not adjusted correctly it won't impact 99% of my driving anyway.

Not sure super glue will work or be strong enough, but use an aerosol activator that will give instantaneous setting results, look for mitre system which is 2 part activation of super glue.

While waiting the 2 days for it to set you could while away the hours on this puzzle:

You can get them on eBay for around £30. If you don’t replace it, it will probably fail the next MOT.

The reason they normally snap is the ball joints seize and snap the arm as they can’t rotate.

Superglue probably won’t fix that, if it was me I would be replacing the sensor as the arms can’t be purchased separately

Luckily in Tasmania there is no MOT. You can keep driving a unroadworthy car until a policeman decides to pull U over and check your car over. The sensor is like $300 (150 quid).

It snapped when I hyperextended the bottom suspension arm to get the spring out.  Ball joints are good and free moving and the superglue held up for 10 miles of bumpy road. Fingers crossed.

Yeah used a super thick superglue with activator. I have been building an aquascape for my marine fishtank so just happened to have 4 thicknesses of superglue and activator on hand. Put a couple of strengthening layers on the sides after first setting the plastic back together. Fingers crossed.

yes I think the sensor from Skoda (TPS in the UK)  is around that price, but here in the UK you can get them much cheaper on eBay. But maybe Oz ebay (if you have it) doesn’t do them.
