MIB3 reverse camera retrofit info / display after?

Featured Replies

Hi all

As part of the deal of buying a 2021 kodiaq recently, the dealer agreed to retrofit a reverse camera of which has now been done and I believe is missing coding / calibration and maybe wrong part used.

Can anyone that has had a camera retrofitted to an MIB3 kodiaq share a picture of their display please and confirm if they also have the washer jet on their camera?

For info, this is all I have on my display

and the camera seems to be missing the washer nozzle

There are three types of reverse camera they could have added - 3rd party solution, Skoda low-line, Skoda Hi-line.

It's only the Hi-line that comes with the washer so your dealer has either fitted the low-line or a 3rd party setup.

Thanks for that

Would I be right in saying the kodiaq should only have the highline version? (This seems to be suggested from my looking into the issue)

Either way, I am presuming that the lines should be there along with the view options as per all other kodiaqs?

To be honest I'm not sure what the factory option is.

Our Karoq came with a low-line from the factory but I bought a high-line for the Kodiaq and had it fitted afterwards.

I'm guessing that If you just asked for a reverse camera to be fitted that that's what the dealer has done.

Don't quote me on this but my understanding is high-line comes with dynamic lines ( i.e. they move with the steering wheel ) whilst the low line has fixed lines.   Suppose it depends on the 3rd party if they come with guidance lines or not.

Unless you tow a caravan where you can alter the view for hooking up, the dynamic / fixed lines are a waste of time as far as I'm concerned - I find them more distracting than anything. All I wanted was a picture like you've posted above.

Well the installer that the dealer used has confirmed 3rd party parts were used and even confirmed it was a system listed for mib2 cars.

I agreed with the dealer that I wanted oem / factory fitted parts as if it was on the car from the factory, obviously this is far from it at the moment so now waiting to see what they say next. To be honest, I'm a little surprised and disappointed that they even farm this work out to an installer that uses non genuine parts let alone doesn't even seem to know the differences in the cars platforms etc.

Either way, at the moment I consider that picture worse than the pdc lines that at least give you a better indication of distance and which side of the bumper any obstruction is etc. Apparently cost the dealer £600 ish for this too and it looks no better than a 50 quid ali express generic camera. The picture is grainy with occasional interference also, probably better with a cheap wireless camera lol (all just guessing)

When you say better idea of distance - doesn't your car have rear sensors?

I agree, it's more than likely an Ali Express special, but then the cost of the system is negligable when factoring labour. But £600 !!!  😲

I'm always sceptical about what sales folk say but if that's true then they were done. Pretty std practice for dealers to contract the job to a 3rd party.

Depends where you live but they could have a High line fitted onsite for that price.

See  vagtec. ( there are of course other companies who'll provide a similar service ).

Yes I have rear sensors and pdc, but this is no longer visible on the screen so you are relying just on the sounds, distance is hard to judge from just the video

Yep seen lots of options for supposed oem fitting, but this was what this was meant to be from the skoda dealer lol. It was implied to me as if the dealer would supply the parts and this was just a fitting company.

Anyway, I want full oem camera and display, else I could get this basic picture for peanuts from elsewhere.

This is one option. Says for the MIB2, but worth contacting them.

WV has two OEM cameras - High and Low. High has extra module that creates these colored lines. Pretty sure they fit only High version to Kodiaq.

Getting the parts aren't a problem it seems and I'm fairly sure I have confirmed only high is used on the kodiaq too. There are some skoda dealers advertising this high part and that it needs coding / calibration etc. And a few other sellers that can provide the oem correct part.

At the moment I'm waiting on the dealer advising what they will or won't do to rectify the issue. I've had to chase daily for a week so far and am being mostly ignored. Today I've also found out that they have not actually registered the v5 to me either. Sigh, losing faith in this dealer a little.

This is mine (apologies for the dust). Factory fit option to an MY21 SEL

Build code is : 167 KA2 VWGROUP KSU With rear view camera system (type 2)

Order sheet : PACKET:PWF - Rear View Camera

Cheers Simon

Whilst it isn’t unusual for a dealer to farm out some work to third parties i.e. non Skoda tow bars etc. for a reverse camera, that was available as a factory fitted option and that Skoda have specifically created retrofitting kits for, then there is no excuse for what your dealer has done.

Lazy, doing stuff on the cheap, thinking they’ve got away with it before, whatever their excuse I know what I’d be asking for. A fully retrofitted factory kit, or, they can have the car back.

The dealers want their cake and to eat it, don’t fit a towbar or peddle box, it might invalidate your warranty, but we’ll quite happily advocate the fitting of non-approved parts of unknown origin that integrate directly into the cars systems, as long as it saves us money.

Time to ditch the emails and get on the phone, or go visit them in person.

Their big boss picked this up the other day and after he visited the dealer and speaking to the staff, he's apologised. In short he wasn't aware that one / some of his staff had lied to him about what and how the deal had been agreed and we've come to an agreement. I've missed some of the back n forth out but he had said he'd refer it to their legal team until finding out the truth.

The short answer is i get to keep this camera and get some refund of money. Also the boss has offered to look after me if ever I'm in need of anything. The member of staff also resigned yesterday and apparently had a list of unhappy other customers.

My V5 has also been processed without issue now someone else has been asked to deal with it.

For info, I had been emailing and phoning, both with pretty much no responses until they escalated to their manager.

Now got to decide if I can be bothered with the pain of finding someone else to put the oem camera in and mess with whatever has been fitted already.

Ps this was the exact point of my surprise that they used a 3rd party knowing they used non genuine parts. After reading comments of people having cameras not being coded and then being told they couldn't extend / take out the all in one cover while there was a fault code, it's sometimes of the dealers doing.

That was me, I had the genuine Skoda high line reverse camera retrofitted by a Skoda dealer, a calibration fault code during the All-In warranty eligibility check cost me several dealer visits and £85.

Luckily Skoda have dropped the eligibility checks now.
