Hi,

I'm looking at Kodiak 2.0 TDI DSG 2020 which has done 115k miles. It's got a decent amount of services and oil changes. I'm guessing with that many miles in 3 years it has to be motorway miles. Cambelt has been done apparently. 

It's for sale for £16,000. My question is am I going to get a decent number of miles in this car? It needs to give me at least 5 years of 10k miles a year or should I steer clear?

To me it seems like a lot of car for the money even with the miles it's done.

Is there a record of the DSG service and when was that done and has the Haldex been serviced 2 or 3 times?

To be honest I've no idea at the moment. All I know is that it has had regular services and oil changes. I would assume, for arguments sake, that everything has been serviced appropriately unless I find out otherwise when I clap my eyes on the service record.

Best assume nothing. 

You need a print out if on the Skoda System, or invoices. 

A Full Service History needs to show to the Manufacturers Guidelines, Recommendations, Specification or Schedule, not just anyone saying Fully Serviced.

 

The Haldex Service is at 3 years / 30,000 miles or sooner, and should not just be the oil changed, but actually serviced.

If it is a DQ500 DSG that is serviced @ 40,000 mile intervals, & if a DQ381 @ 80,000 miles or sooner.

 

2021 prices & just as a general guide. Fixed Service regime, not flexible / variable.

If all the above has been done do you think it's a car worth buying and will do me a few years?

If servicing and maintenance has been done and all is well it should be good for a long time.

 

It depends on how many miles annually you are doing. 

 

The thing that would be my concern is the SCR / Adblue system.

I would want to have a Warranty on the car that covers failure of that, or the DSG or Haldex. 

At least for the next year, but longer if you can buy one.

Have you done a check for outstanding finance, accident damage, stolen/recovered etc?

I endorse the perspective that @tootgave you on assuming nothing, however I would flip that, and assume the worst unless you have proof to the contrary.

So...

Assume no service history until you have documented proof of the service history.

Assume it's been stolen, thrashed and then recovered/repaired unless you have a report saying it has not.

Assume it's been written-off and rebuilt, unless you have a report confirming it hasn't been.

Assume anything that could go wrong, will go wrong and get yourself an appropriate warranty to cover that failure unless you're happy to pay for the repair yourself.

 

I hope this doesn't come across as negative doom-mongering, I'm just trying to re-frame things to give you a different perspective.

Also, while not the same vehicle, this post is probably worth a read.
