Turbo - now what is up with it?

Featured Replies

My car (2001 110 TDi) has been sluggish again :-( I took it into the dealer to have the the haudralic clutch pipe replaced. When I got the car back it was running as it should do. Oh good I thought... but now it is back to running like a dog again.

I checked a while ago with vag com and there were no faults reported then.

When I pull away I can hear a faint turbo whistle, and then it dies away about just over 2000 rpm and the performance is pants.

I had a new turbo last year, so it can't be that (can it?!) - only done about 10k miles since then. Have also had a new MAF and n75 valve.

I'll stick vag com on it over the weekend I expect..... but inthe mean time anything to look for??

Depressed of Dorset!

Was the top of the air filter box removed? It is very easy to miss re-connecting the small diameter pipe under the main hose to it.

mmm, I have no idea. I certainly have not removed it.. but it is worth a look in the day light!!!

What is the small hose - and what does it do?

It looks like the hoses that go to the N75, I do not know for sure what it does, or what effect its' abscence has - but it has got to be worth a try and it is the only thing I can think of, apart from what you have already had replaced, though it is not unknown for new stuff to fail.

Look on the bright side, you live close to Garys Skospares parts emporium.

Nope... checked that smaller pipe this morning - firmly attached at both ends. Not sure that it goes directly to the n75, but it is near to it!

The turbo was not brand new (came off a car that had done about 10k miles).

I have to drive 50 miles to work in a sluggish car :-(

Where is Garys Skospares parts emporium then?

It's Roadside Rescue in Poole.

Just a thought have you tried running it with the MAF disconnected, I know it will put the light on but it will substitute in a pre-determined figure for it, if the performance improves then the MAF has had it.

Yep... might give that a whirl on the way to work tomorrow (even this afternoon). I have wiggled the cabling on the MAF plug and plugged/unplugged it a few times to see if it was a dodgy connection or not....
