boot open warning.

Im getting the boot open warning go on on and off almost constantly when driving. On-of to the point where it shows the white car, but the alert is not long ebough for the boot 'red door' to pop up most of the time

Checking the boot and it is indeed closed.

Doesnt matter if i give it a good slam or anything. Has just started happening and is starting to drive me made with the constant alarm bong going off.

Im assuming a problem with the latch somewhere.. any suggests on what i need to do and... Importantly... How exactly do i do that! 🤣

First thing i'd check is if you have added any LED interior lights or LED boot lights. I added LED boot lights to mine and now if anyone turns on the rear interior/reading light then I get boot open warnings.

I have changed out the lightsbin the boot for LED but I did that about 6 months ago (and never had the problem)

Currently there is no alarm... And now im just chosing not to open the boot 🤣 as 2 days ago it was 3 alarm beeps per second... Every second.. for my entire 45 minute journey.......

Remove the LED bulbs that you have fitted aftermarket.

these will be the cause of your problems :) you will probably find that if you turn the interior light on and open the glovebox you’ll get the same fault.

if this doesn’t cure it, come back to us as the micro switch in the latch may be faulty

Thank you guys!

I had the same issue where there was a warning on the dash for a split second every second or 2 and the hazards would flash. Turns out I had bumped the interior map light when removing child seats and we also have the LED globes in the boot.

What an odd error to come up!

Resurrecting this thread. I seem to be getting the same fault as well. Randomly getting the boot open warning flickering on and off while driving. It's a bit strange as I have had LED bulbs in the boot as well for almost a year and a half but never had any problems until now. Is there any other potential causes?

I had aliexpress LED bulbs in boot over a year before problems started. However, they were the cause.

Other possibility is microswitch in the boot lock/latch. Basically a latch replacement job. Some times there is leak in the rear washer that causes the problem in the latch.

However, you shud start by replacing the LED bulbs with OEM bulbs or with OEM equivalent LEDs that have similar resistance than OEM bulbs. At least Kopacek sells such LEDs.

I didn't get the chance to remove the LED bulbs.
The car oddly started behaving itself today even after a stern drive along a major road to test it. Very strange.
I can only guess some condensation caused a short as it is very cold right now.

Lets hope so, tho the problem often come and go, stay tuned 😅

Yeah I know. I got a bunch of spare filmanent bulbs just in case.

There is a open/close microswitch in the lock/latch that might be faulty. Some times rear window washer system leaks into the lock (inside, not visible without removing trims) and causes this.

More commonly just the microswitch fails.

Had the exact same problem, when driving constant beeping from boot being open when wasn't. Had the boot latch replaced under warranty via skoda oct 2017

Ps this fixed the fault

It has been an intermittent fault on my Octavia 3 since May, it was on constantly yesterday and I noticed water in the latch, so i dried it off as best i could and sprayed the latch with maintenance spray. The result was instant success!

Have you tried spraying with maintenance spray spray?

Had this recently too. Boot open warning would sound despite boot being closed. Assumed it was the cheapo reverse camera / boot handle from Ali Express. Went away for a bit then back with a vengeance, also noticed that drivers mirror puddle light flashing when car locked. Reverted back to original handle, gave latch a good spray with WD40. No boot warning but also now no interior lights and dash has dimmed!! Help! Thought it might be battery but tested and sitting at 12v after a week of not moving in sub zero temperatures + charging at 14v when running ! Car is a 2018 Mk3 2.0 tdi 52k

All I know is that water was leaking from the rear screen washer into the boot lock. I subsequently had to have the rear wiper replaced for an extortionate amount of money. I think the water leaked through the wiper mechanism, causing it to fail.
