Possible slave/master cylinder issue. Help!

Featured Replies

Hello,

Two weeks ago my clutch pedal stuck to the floor and I found a leak under the engine.  A mechanic changed a faulty master cylinder but today I have experienced the same issue.  Could this be the slave cylinder as I read not changing both can put excess pressure on the old cylinder

Any advice greatly appreciated

Simon

There are many possible reasons, if you are unknowledgeable on such matters there's no point speculating.

Let your mechanic fix it... assuming it wasn't something they did to get more business.

No, the new master cylinder won't cause the slave to fail.

Thank you, got it booked in for Tuesday.  8hrs at the roadside waiting for recovery wasn't the best 50th birthday.

Change your reading matter, the pressure in the hydraulic system os a function of the load required to overcome the pressure plate springs to release the clutch driven plate, it is effectively a constant.

The mechanic changed the master cylinder first because it is easier and cheaper than changing the concentric slave cylinder I bet your vehicle has which means removing the gearbox.
