Hi there!

 

I'm a new and happy owner of a 2016 Skoda Superb MKIII L&K TDI2.0 190. I've been driving Skoda for 15 years, and my good old Fabia is still running fine. I feel right at home - and yet it's sooo much better.

 

Some questions have come up - as the seller (auth Skoda dealer) said there weren't any updates for the firmware.

 

 

 

 

As I understand it - The car was updated from MST2_EU_SK_ZR_P0245T -> MST2_EU_SK_ZR_P0250T.

 

That last part the MU version - what does it really stand for? Looking at mibsolution, I find two more firmwares - ending with the P025X - and a long string starting with V or S. What do these mean? Can there be other firmwares available elsewhere?

I read somewhere that it's probably not safe to update a P02XXT to a P03XXT or P04XXT. Does anybody have more info on that?

 

I would like to update my system because:

 

1) I hate knowing that there is a newer version out there, and I don't have it.

2) The system feels quite glitchy, it can end up in weird states, and the carplay tends to crash quite a bit.

Is this something I can do? My car has the Canton sound system - does this make it more difficult?

Do I need to use a diagnostic tool to "confirm the update"? I'm quite new to this. I guess I could learn to use VCDS, but how would I connect it to my specific car?

Are there any risks to doing this?

 

I also wonder - is there anyway I can find out what my car is fitted with? The dealer didn't know exactly all the details. It is L&K but only came with "front assist". Can more assistants etc be enabled using VCDS?

 

There is something called MIB2STD toolbox, what can be done with this tool?

 

Any other cool things, or resources of things out there?

You can log in to ERWIN enter your VIN, pay 7 Euro of 1 hour and you can get all the information pertaining to your vehicle and much more (workshop manuals etc.)

enter ur current version, i.e. MST2_EU_SK_ZR_P0250T, then it will tell u wat is the latest, where & how to get it, and install it.

according to that, the latest version for u is MST2_EU_SK_ZR_P0480T (MU: 0480)

I’m very interested in what firmware you were coming from, what issues you hoped to solved, and what changed with your update. Was more features enabled? Do you have the Canton sound system?

I used the mibsolution website to get the firmware I needed.

Mine was MHI2.

I went up from 0942 to 1433, but mine is MHI2, not MST2 like urs.

Yes I have Canton. There was no need to re-parameterize.

No, it doesn't add more features as it's not an upgrade.

 

I didn't have any issues prior to doing the update, I just wanted to bring it up to the latest available version.

 

Since I did update, the Infotainment unit is much more responsive, taking less time to do things, and seems to boot up faster.

Happy with it.

I went from 0468 to 0478, on my MST2. 

 

 

Another reason to get an OBD11 kit...

 

Is there a changelog anywhere for the issues fixed by each new firmware version? 

 

I have had a problem for the last 10 years with my Octavia MIB1 Columbus that at start-up it forgets which song was playing & always starts from the first track on the SD card.

 

It's been updated 3 times by the dealer but none of the updates corrected the problem.

I know there are several others with the same problem so was hoping that eventually it would be solved.

Please also note- you will be left with a fault code in 5F which relates to software version incorrect after doing this update.

 

to correct it you need to use an XOR calculator and a few numbers that can be found using the mib-helper above, enter this hex as an adaptation and the fault code clears itself.

The latest firmware I dare to update to is MST2_EU_SK_ZR_P0253T_V0020171002, but I wonder what is that string in the end about V0020171002? the other firmwares don't have it. Perhaps it's possible to get the "clean" MST2_EU_SK_ZR_P0253T somewhere else other than mibsolution.

 

Also the other thing I'm worried I need to do is the Canton parametrization - but I guess the service guys can do that if I need it.
