4*oC. Not a breath of wind.

But then it was 3.5 miles kW/h going up hill for 21 miles, and it gets to 3.9 with 23 miles coming back but it was over 4 miles quite a bit until the last 2 miles.

Remote pre-conditioning / de-icing is just perfect.

-4*oC this morning and on 4 minutes.

Inside warm, heated rear screen and mirrors come on and i did not miss the steering wheel not being a heated one.

One moving and just heated seat on at 1 and heating at 20*oC setting it was doing 2.7 miles a kWh in town.

I have a good few miles to do in the next few days and using the MINI just because of the All Season tyres on it and comfort and i think i am OK for the chargers i will be using.

Leaving with 100 % charge and temp at -5*oC and car pre conditioned.  Today just me and dog.

Plan is charging at 75-80 mile each time other than a 90 mile between charges, maybe some driving on white stuff so i will see as i have alternative chargers but they are just not Free or cheap.  I reckon on maybe 5 charging seasons at most on 50 kW chargers, but i will see.

The MINI actually seams to be pretty good in the cold as long as the heater is at 18*oC and AC just on occasionally if needed if any steaming up.

That is the beauty of a small interior and the heated seat only needs on for a few minutes occasionally when getting in to cold leather or before getting in.

-2. Car preconditioned on charger and at 100%.    180 miles to do heading north.  First charge in 70 miles to get to 99% and then heading into the warmer weather but with snow on roads so maybe need charged at Perth to be having enough range incase of issues.  Hold ups.

It went ok.  Then not. I went behind a HGV in rainy conditions at 60 mph then behind a gritter at 65 mph and reached Glasgow and it took 50 minutes to go 15 miles.   Range was looking ok and I carried on to Stirling hub 86 miles on with 14% and 11 miles.  People waiti g for rapids. 2 cars locked in not charging, 1 charger dead slow and 1 Fast.  I went on the AC til I could get the one going slow.   5 attempts and it would not work.  Now on the CCS on the charger the Mitsubishi PHEV is locked into with

Chademo.   The Tesla on the other one has just left. It had an adaptor and was using chademo.   What a pita.  Here about an hour and only at 48%.  The 86 miles took 2 hours 9 minutes.   Now heading to the snow in maybe 20 minutes.

Home.

No snow, just rain and cold and not quite as efficient for the next 90 miles.

left with 10 miles range.

FWIW, Chademo plug should unlock on completion. At least the original Nissan provided Ecotricity Electric Highway ones do. The locking mechanism is controlled by the charger, not the car. There is usually a light on the Chademo plug to signal whether it is locked, if not lit, anyone can unplug it.  So it's possible to unplug and end charging session for those who have completed their charging, then start your session.

@wyx087The thing with should and could is that ii would not.  This is not my first rodeo.

It did not matter to me that it was locked in, just that it had eventually stopped charging and allowed me to use the CCS after their charge had finished. (I had not even hit the Emergency stop.)

I hope the driver was lots of minutes over the 40 minute max charge time and paying £1 a minute.

Charge Place Scotland and e-Volt chargers,  (e-Volt owned by SWARCO.)    At least at Stirling it is FES that does the maintenance.

So it was just like the 2 arS£s the other days Hyundia,s. Locked in and charging finished, but it was the CCS they were using.

..................

Only a 13.8 kWh battery so no idea why it was so long still charging.

85 miles range only from 100% starting out from freezing and not pre conditioned.  Temps from 0 to 3degrees until last 10 miles and it went to 8 C.    Charge place Scotland chargers out of order. On a BP Pulse to get to 90% to get to a Tesla Supercharger and Tesla non Tesla.  Was on 60 mph and 70 mph limits.  Now all 70 limits.  It was torrential and sleet, now drizzle and warmer.  Getting a good charging speed to 90 % is ok when able to get onto a 50 kW charger.  Need to charge twice more today at 40 minutes a time.

EDIT.

PS

2nd BP Pulse charging was terrible.

Weather for the ARK and 5 chargers.  i was om the 3rd charger before getting a charge about 30 minutes after arriving.

The Charger numbers would not come up on the phone app, and then my phone was soaking.

The RFID car would not work on the soaking touch screens.

I was not going to tap a Credit / Debit card and pay 85 pence a kWh instead of 69 pence but eventually did as needed to get moving.

That did not work.

Eventually in the car totally soaked i got through to BP Pulse. The 10 minutes of bad connection, getting through security and year i joined etc, he was not interested in Card Number, Subscription new, Motability arranged etc.  Wanted the year i first joined  2019, different e-mail etc.

So eventually after nearly 1 hour the charger was started remotely.

That was about £11 for that charge,

5 times now this card has not worked and they say nothing wrong with it and they will not replace it.

They will next week once my e-mail is with Motability and my reviews are online.

Checked my history for today and it was 2 failed to start charging 1st location today and 5 tiimes at the 2nd Service Area.

1 other session on a CPS charger was 55 pence a kWh and 16 kWh taken. Worked first time and a good speed.

Now sitting with 15 miles range and can not be bothered going to a charger will do it very early tomorrow for free.

Weather if just horribly wet.

This morning.  15% and 10 miles range at 10*oC.   It took 70 minutes on a slow 50 kW CCS to get to 100%.   Charging free. 27.35 kWh.   Showing 96 mile range.

Wild weather.  I pushed it know I could get a charge before Stirling heading north in a storm.    Flooding roads and temps 0-2°C.   85 miles and 1 hour 47 mins.  Cruise control on and behind a 65 mph HGV and Green + and that means no heating to arrive with 6 miles range and 8% battery.  Getting 47kW charging speed.  The 40 minute max charging time might not be enough.  If it gets to 11kW charging or slower I will go on the AC until 99%.  I have 80 miles to do and maybe snow ahead.      This is as I expected with the MINI.   Car is great in the wet and wind and I will see if this is as poor as the range gets or if even less in much colder weather.  80 mile range is acceptable and MID or Green mode will be fine when in Snow.   Green + no use as even the heated seat is not available and to get demisting AC needs taken out of Green + mode.

EDIT.

PS.  Got home with 9% / 8 miles of range through flooded roads,

If not in an Electric Car i would not have gone through some of the flooded bits, or in a raised up 4x4 or Pickup.

Even those if just a standard height without raised intakes might be in triuble.

Oh no, ££££ battery repair bill incoming, according to the internet.

@wyx087Car soaking inside and will need drying out.

I was speaking to a driver before he went into a flood and he drove in and a lorry followed him before i got my window closed.

At Stirling the CPS app shows in 48 minutes i took 30.002 kW & that was £10.50.    (Correct for 30 x 35 pence)

MINI App says 28 kW.

Started with 8% and stopped at 95%.

Started charging at home @ 11.12 am and app says finished at 01-12 am.

That was 9% when charge started, it will charge to 100%.

I will be interested to see how many kW the car shows and what my meter shows.

EDIT / PS,  Thursday morning.

Car / app says it took 33 kW.    Range showing at 100 %.

 That was 9% / 8 miles to 100% / 80 miles.

Lithium battery tech rather than lithium iron phosphate so is charging to 100%, rather than 90 or even 80% either the right advice ?

Zoe is lithium rather than LFP and full regen does not happen between 90-100 % so car is not so efficient anyways in this SOC.

Bjorn Nyland once calculated the Zoe Ze50 useable battery at 45 kWh whereas Renault call it a ZE50, say it is nominal 52 kWh and actual 55 kWh, 4 different values.

Depends where we measure the Watts going in or already in the battery and can be translated to traction power. 10% loss in and out, lost mainly as heat of course.

I last charged the car at home on the 2nd January and it was at 100% and 103 miles in warmer weather.

The last time the car was opened and turned on was the 6th and it was @ 100% and 96 miles.

Sitting until i just turned it on at around freezing or lower and in the shade it is at 100% still and showing 93 miles.

I plugged it in and it is Full / 100%.

Pleased with this no loss while parked up, unlike the Corsa Electric that lost lots of energy while sitting doing what ever it did.

This past week i did 700 miles getting over 45 MPG in the Diesel estate.   With Summer tyres on icy roads.

Next week i have 400 miles to do so just need to decide once i see if the snow that is forecast if i take the MINI and get a charge each 80 miles maybe and have the security of the All Season tyres or i risk taking the Barge and maybe slip slide around and can not get off onto back roads and get where i want off of the Motorway.

DSC_0544.JPG

Pre heating today was lovely. But the ice formed on the inside of the sunroofs is now dripping.

I must do better drying and airing of the inside.  AC has hardly been on during longer runs as it is energy heavy.

I was in to see the New MINI Countryman.   A bit of a Big Beast.  This is the John Cooper Works.   Fugly IMO.

50 Miles round trip in and out to Dundee on the back roads.

Not sparing the ponies and starting off when about freezing and 100%,  83 miles.

Used 48% and showing 52% and 53 miles once home.     3.3 miles kw/h

The BMW Diesel did 52 mpg indicated one way starting from cold.

Edit,

at 100% by midnight on the 3 pin cable and showing 107 miles range.

18kWh  52%-100%.

I really do like and enjoy driving the MINI especially on back / narrow roads. Also on faster good roads, very stable.

As fast as i can drive and the legal speed is fast enough really on some of the best roads for fun, but the ride is terrible on the 17" wheels, 205/45 R17 All Season tyres.

Good in the wet and cold, and been OK on what few miles i had them on snow.

They grip well but on the poor surfaces it really is a hard hit and the car can hop & crash about a bit.

So 16" rims going on and 195/55 R 16 All Season next week as i am planning a good few longer trips this year within Scotland and North of England & am going to carry 2 spares so the 17" wheels / tyres will be just fine for that.

..............

Quite a good vid here from Nobby on Cars IMO.

I am glad i got the current car and did not wait for the new one even though longer between the need to charge would be nice i suspect there will be snagging faults and i really could not live with the interior or centre screen and not Speedo / Info in front.  I am not a fan of the heads up display and have it Off on my car as not needed.

More than happy with the smaller rims and change of tyres.

Handling better, less crashy, no wheel spin take off even though just above freezing, full power and traction and dynamic control off,

but sunny so the road surface was maybe warm enough.

Minus 7 degrees start.  Pre heat for 5 mins plugged in. 100% show 104 miles.  Then I noticed that Power available is limited to 75%. I was in sport and behind vans and lorries so was getting 3 8 miles a kWh and it was minus 6.  Heating at 19 degrees.   Exactly after 20 miles power available went to 90% and at 25 miles to 100% .  After 40 miles I had 70 mile range and then on Motorway it was 3.3 miles a kWh.  Arrived at MFG charger after 80 miles with 30% battery and 30 miles range.   Charger started dead easy. Plug in tap card.  79 pence a kWh, next charge will be at a Tesla charger the after that no plan yet for 90 miles or so later.  See where I am then.    New tyres a success as far as efficiency .  Comfort great and silent .

Great efficiency there. Sounds like 100+ miles any weather no problem. Smaller rims probably helped a lot.

3.3 miles kW/h into the hills and 3.8 miles kW/h back. 0*oC-3*oC max temp and 35 mph average speed.

16" rims and 195/55 R 16 Maxxis Ap3 all seasons totally the right choice for me. Smooth running and good handling, and horrible horrible road surfaces all about.

I just received an e-mail from Motability about a Connect Trial on EV,s.    Their team and the RAC can track vehicles and see if there might be maintenance requirements or service needs.   They say that almost all EV,s that can connect to the internet can be part of this trial.     Then that my car qualifies and no need to opt in as already part of this.      We will see how they are doing because I have wheels on with no TPMS sensors in and the car gives a warning every time I start it to contact a dealer.       Big brother has been here for a long time and Data Protection appears to not be your choice to opt in.    I can disconnect the car from internet, but it likely still is able to connect to wi-fi hot spots.    PS, it says that if any potential or actual issues are detected from the Data collected from Connected Vehicles the RAC can contact me and arrange a visit from a mobile patrol or arrange a visit to a dealership.

Glen Doll 3rd March.   Great the disabled toilet at the  Ranger / visitor centre is open 24 hours.

(Heated to stop pipes freezing as best they can, sceptic tank. Toilets only likely to be closed in summer if a draught. A Dry closet being the answer to that one.)

No EV charging there yet which is a shame as some more solar panels and battery storage would be simply clever for this and the building.
