Dash light level fluctuates

Featured Replies

Hello. I had a Mk2 Monte Carlo estate from 2018 to last month. Great car a 1.2 TSi. I recently swapped to a Mk3 estate Monte Carlo, this time a 1.0 TSi which I really like. Only downgrade is lack of single touch electric windows.

Anyway, the only issue I have is that the dash light levels seem to fluctuate. I can be driving along and the level will noticeable drop or rise. This happens occasionally. My first thought was that the voltage regulator on the alternator could be to blame.  The change in level is only noticeable at night.  I'm wondering if there's some ambient light sensor that it uses to change the level.

The other odd thing is that I'm sure the windscreen wipers have some intelligence. They won't come on automatically, but on intermittent I'm sure it makes some decisions based on rain level. Maybe I'm imagining it.

The windows may be a case of an up down reset.

Dash lights, feck knows.

Wipers, yes the intermittent is based on speed and rain level, assuming you have auto wipers

I've tried the up/down reset. I've been told that the driver's side might be possible via software configuration but the passenger side lost the hardware on the mk3.

MK3 hasn't got one touch windows. So stuck with holding the button.

The wipe hasn't got a rain sensor. They are speed related only.

Dash light. Sounds like you have P.K.E meter fitted. Look in your manual under Egon Spengler.

Wipers:-

Dash Lights:-

Are light sensitive.

If the car lights are off then, the lighter it is the brighter they become.

If the car lights are off then, the darker it is the darker they become.

Mine does this when power load is high, such as when my subwoofer is particularly thumpy. I have my dash lights dimmed fully at night, so I dont see it whilst driving, however my LED's do dim/brighten depending on my acceleration so engine power usage etc.
