Octavia IV 1.5 TSI DSG won’t rev above 2500 rpm in S mode

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am new Skoda driver, just got my Octavia in July. It’s also my first car equipped with automatic gearbox - DSG DQ200 I was told.

I was very excited about DSG, expecting a lot, however from day one with my new car I am experiencing unwanted behaviour regarding gear shifting. Apparently in S mode it always upshifts on 2500 rpm regardless of throttle level, mild medium, harsh, doesn’t matter. Even when I step on it really hard, like 80% or 90%, it won’t rev above 2500, period. In D it’s even worse, goes up to 2000 max. So I am experiencing poor performance even though driving in S mode most of the time. It’s so annoying driving a car that totally disrespects the throttle, and the driver if I may say.

I have noticed few exceptions though:

  • In Manual mode it goes like hell, engine awakes bringing excitement to driver and passengers 🤗
  • Was driving once at 3000 rpm in 2nd gear on 10% ascent with relatively moderate trottle, looks like car is respecting gravity
  • In 7th gear it goes above 2500 rpm since there is no 8th obviously
  • There is kickdown option available, but I don’t like it, goes double or even triple down, almost instantly on 5000 or 6000 rpm

So is this normal bahavior for given vehicle? I hardly believe it is. Or there is something wrong with my car 🤔

Greetings from Croatia!

Welcome.

Something wrong.

Thank you toot for prompt response. I will definitely visit local service partner. After all car is under warranty.

Yep defo something wrong. Mine goes into redline easy.

P.s. my iv has the 6 speed dsg in so might work different. My old mk3 with DQ200 went well over 2000revs when you put foot down

Just to follow up.

Today I went to dealership for service to check my gearbox. After test drive they said it’s normal behaviour. “You need to floor down the throttle to get it over 2000 revs otherwise it always stays low”. Than he show me how kick down works, like I wouldn’t know otherwise… I try to argue but without success.

I heard there is throttle reset procedure, not sure would that help, perhaps will try.

It sounds like the car has been left in 'In transit mode' and not reset at the PDI.

Obviously going along the road you can get the accelerator to the floor and have the cars full RPM without kicking down or dropping gears.

Well you should be able to.

There will not be another car in that dealership that does 2,000 or 2,5000 rpm.   Other than when stationary.

Yes I guess you are right. That’s exactly how accelerator behaves.

I was not aware there is ‘transit mode’. Is there a way to check myself?

Also it would be great if I could get accelerator position on cockpit or entertainment screen to check at what percentage it triggers. At the moment I believe at 100%, not sure though.

If it has the DQ200 gearbox are the revs being limited to prevent the engine output going beyond 250nm?

Watch the many youtube,s of a 1.5 TSI ACT DSG mHEV,s accelerating or POV,s and see them go to the red line.

Mk2 Fabia vRS 1.4 TSI Twinchargers have a DQ200 and you can rev beyond the red line. 250 Nm / 180 ps. and can be mapped to over 200 bhp / 320 Nm and still go to max rpm with that at about 4,500 -5,000pm.

Polo 1.8 TSI 2014 on re 192 ps / 250 Nm and rev to the red line.

Interesting, but how would "mapping" effect the gearbox warranty?

184ft/lbs = 250nm approx

The gearbox is not designed for torque above 250nm from what i understand.

It invalidates the manufacturers warranty, just like it says in the Warranty.

Non Factory approved Software or Hardware.
