The title for this message could be: "Battery Range and Charging Issue with My Skoda Octavia IV 2021

Hello, I wanted to check with you if you have any advice. I own a Skoda Octavia IV 2021. Lately, I've noticed that I only get up to 50km of range on my battery, and it charges to exactly 11 kWh, showing 99% when I start the car. Weather conditions are good, with an outdoor temperature of around 20 degrees Celsius. It should provide me with 13 kWh and a range of approximately 65 km, right? I charge the car at different stations, mostly 22 kW, but also 11 kW (if that makes any difference?).

 It does not have 13 kWh usable does it? 

 

Leaves an ickle room for regen incase you start off down hill.

 

1% of 100% hardly matters if 100% is on 11.7 kW,(usable)

 

    My MINI is 28.9 kWh usable (32.64  kWh battery) and only wants to charge to 99%.

No. Usable capacity is 10.5. It still can go about 70km in ideal conditions, but more realistically 50 to 60. I see nothing wrong with your range of 50km. If I drive only in my town (hills and lots of speed bumps) I can barely make 40km.

Doesn't matter, car won't take more than 3,5kW.

Okay, I understand your arguments. However, I’ve owned the car for about a month. The first few times I charged the car, I reached between 63 and 65 km in capacity

I'm not sure what you mean. If you are talking about range estimation car shows you on infotainment, these numbers have not much to do with reality anyway. The only thing you can trust is watching odometer and seeing how many kms you made between full charge and zero. I was surprised to learn that ICE cars are counting consumption and estimating range better than EVs do.

If you were measuring how many kms you did, and now consistently you are able to drive less kms on full charge, giving the same route and behavior, then it is strange. But seeing how others tried to address similar problems to Skoda, I don't think there willll be any luck convincing them that something is wrong with the car, they always say that range may vary and it is ok. Myself, I've never experienced anything similar with my 3 years old iV.

I’ll try a full charge and see what it actually gives me in real life range. But what bothered me was that in the infotainment system, it always showed an electric range of over 63 km, and lately, it’s been giving me exactly 50 km in the calculation. I also got fixated on the fact that the charger always stops at 11 kW during a full charge.

The screen is only showing the guestimate from the kidology information Skoda put into the system from WLTP figures.  Assuming the amazing miles per kWh.  Just like many a BEV where it shows when charged you will be getting 5 miles a kWh when you might never get 4 miles and the last trip you got only 3.5.    your battery can only take what it takes, to save the battery.  There is an extra little hidden capacity there.  That is for when there is degragation and they can have the battery show as still 100% and A ok.

Like many before me have said, the estimate it gives you is based on your previous driving style and consumption.

I don't have the hybrid, but after doing a lot of driving in the city, my car will estimate the range to 550km when filling up. After long highway trips that number will be 650km.

A quick update.

I checked with a friend of mine who also has an Octavia. We charged our cars simultaneously from 0% to 99%. Both cars received a message that charging would take 3.4 hours.

My car reached 99% one hour earlier and received a total of 11 kW with an estimated range of 50 km. My friend charged for exactly one hour longer and received a full 13 kW with an estimated range of 66 km.

& what was he using to charge a 7 kW wall box or a 3 pin charger? 

Where was it being charged, inside a cool garage because getting 13 kWh in is strange.

 

All you would need to was both go for a drive taking turns in front and see what range you both got just on electric power. 

Real range not estimated.

Yes, absolutely, trying to drive together would have been the optimal solution. However, we don't have the opportunity for such a test.

Both cars are from the 2021 model year; my car, on the other hand, has been driven less than his.

 

Something doesn't seem right; I'm going to take it to the dealership and have them check the battery.

it should have been from 20% to 99%. I'll upload a picture of the receipt that provides more details (it's in Swedish, but should be easy to understand).
