I'm trying to work out the best next steps (and most cost effective) with my 2.0 TDI Octavia. It's done around 60k miles and had a DPF light come on.

 

So I tried the long run to force a regeneration which never happened (the coil lamp was also on and I didn't know what that meant at the time). A bit of back and forth waiting for garage and the Car went into limp mode.

 

They insisted a long run was the right approach and they'd cleared error codes. Turns out they'd missed an exhaust temperature sensor fault that I showed them on my very basic OBDII reader.

 

They've fixed this today, put in some DPF cleaner and suggested again just a long run to regen. My reader is suggesting a calculated soot of 50g. I'm wondering if this is the right approach or whether I should take it somewhere to get it cleaned. It's also due an oil change/service (does around 8k a year) which I've read may be needed too for regeneration to work well.

 

So I guess, should I be driving this just for a long run? (They tried for a bit after the sensor but before the DPF cleaner and saw calc soot reduce to 50g and measured soot at around 2.5g). But the DPF light is still on. Or should I try and get it cleaned professionally, if so what should I be asking/looking for in a cleaner? I read that the Halfords one is a waste of time...

A 2013 car on only 60k is probably in need of at least removal and deep clean of the dpf. Maybe even a new one.

I would suggest that it's not the right car for you unless you've only recently taken it on. Is it safe to say you only do short runs?

Clearing fault codes rarely fixes faults. What other ones were there?

We do quite a few short runs, but normally a decent run every month or so. We've had the car 3 years I think and not had an issue before. I've always been able to trigger a regen previously with a 30 min run

Before the temperature sensor was replaced just these 

Ah, OK, I missed that the sensor was replaced.
