Fabia MKIII Big Brake upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently picked up a cracking little 2019 MKIII Fabia, I’m really enjoying it but want to upgrade the brakes.

Has anyone out there got any recommendations on which direction to go in? I was thinking of going down the road of GTI or S3 on the front but not sure if it is possible or the best choice.

Thanks!

OEM one's are more than adequate. It's less than 140bhp when mapped 😁 Save your money for better things. Like servicing.

Or Tyres if you want to stop quicker.

Thanks. AG Falco

Well I’ve had the remap done today in fact, however the brakes feel soft and have no real bite compared to other hatches that I’ve had and are not inspiring confidence on fast road sections. Maybe there is something going on with the OEM fit?

Get fluid tested if it hasn't been changed since new, replace if required. Check servo operation, bleed brakes, consider new pads if badly worn. All a lot cheaper than going up in size.

You would also need to think about notifying your insurers about the modification.

Are your front disc brakes 256x22mm or 288x25mm?

You might find that the Fabia MK3 with up to 95HP comes with 256x22mm front discs and from 110HP comes with 288x25mm front discs.

If you've got rear disc brakes, they will be 230x9mm.

Hi Carlston,

They are 288mm.

I’m wondering if I can squeeze 310mm in behind the 16” alloys.

14" rims clear 256x22mm front brake discs.

15" rims clear 288x25mm front brake discs.

16" rims clear 310x25mm front brake discs.

The Fabia MK3 288x25mm front brake calipers are also used on the Audi A1 310x25mm front brakes. So just a change of front brake discs and front brake caliper carriers is needed, as the front brake calipers are the same. The OEM part number for the front brake caliper carriers for the 310x25mm front brakes on the Audi A1 2011- is 8X0615125A up to 13/04/2015 and 8X0615125C from 13/04/2015. You might be able to order these parts from a VAG parts department. It might be worth ordering the later version (ie. 8X0615125C) as they were both used on the same front brake calipers so 8X0615125A and 8X0615125C should be interchangeable.

That’s awesome Carlston thanks for the information. I have seen a set of new S1 calipers, sorry to hit you with another question but are you aware of any difference between the S1 caliper and a “standard” caliper on an A1 or indeed the Fabia? Thanks again.

The S1 uses the same calipers as your car, except for the colour and perhaps an S1 emblem.

The S1 comes in two different colours, either matt black or tornado red as shown in the chart below.

However, the S1 might match these coloured front brake calipers and carriers to coloured rear brake calipers and carriers, with bigger 272x10mm rear brake discs.
