Octavia 2021 Reversing light wiring access

Featured Replies

Hey

Can anyone tell me where to access the reversing light harness ?

I have this car on a lease so cant go drilling holes for the camera over the number plate so it has to be mounted inside the rear windscreen.

It also needs a trigger wire run to the reversing light positive.

I've checked the "digital" manual and frankly its rubbish. I've checked google and on here and there are loads of variants so I cannot say exactly which one is correct.

  1. I could do with some idea of how to access the light cluster, I think there are two T20 screws I can see through the tailgate trim, but not sure. I don't want to have to de-trim the tailgate unless I need to.
  2. Which cable is the positive to the reverse light?

As all lights on this are LED and I don't know if they change colour, I am not sure which actual light is the reverse to trace the cable. I checked and saw the indicator on, and I thought that one was the reverse, maybe it is underneath the indicator?

Im an engineer by trade but the easier route is best but as it is a lease I dont want to have any screw ups on it or I will get penalties

Thanks in advance

First off don't go connecting to the original wiring, as you can do some damage most of the wiring is Can-bus so if you connect to the wrong place you can wipe out the canbus system.

I have just had one fitted on mine but it was done professionally and it was coded to the car and no holes drilled if fits where the boot release button is, and it even has a washer jet so when you use the rear jets it cleans the camera.

and to be honest you say about the car being leased just leave it on as no one will know if it was on or not when you got it

AHhh, dammit

Ill install a switch in the front to turn it on then, just needs a 24v to activate the reverse and I can pick that up from the fuse box. Its  not a camera per se its a rear view mirror front and back camera (Wolfbox G900), the reversing comes as as part of it.

Thanks anyway

You say it needs 24 Volts where are you going to get that from ?

From what you have said I don't think you are confident with car electrics so what I would do is find a good Auto electrician

and get them to do it, I know it will cost but would be a lot less than the damage that can be done if you get it wrong

Yeah?

Okkk

Thank you for your patronising reply.

I have no schematics

It's a leased vehicle ergo, not mine where I get to choose what I do with it, even on a temporary basis.

As you mentioned can bus, I knew exactly the downsides to cocking it up as I do not want to faff around fitting sub relays or even remotely mess the system up as its only just been updated and it's still not working properly, by SKODA  themselves and I am not wishing to incurr a massive bill from skoda for repairs.

And to make it really easy I'll pick up a 12v from the main fuse box on a less commonly used circuit such as the USB rear on fuse 62. Not that I need your approval for that but I'm letting you know for information

Lastly, for your record, I'm am very experienced, familiar and knowledgeable with ELV, HV, electronics, can bus, profibus, ASI, PLC,  servos, Robotics, automation systems, nuclear systems, avionics, weapons systems, ejector seats, LOTO,

ETC being an electrical engineer  for over 40 years!!

I respectfully suggest you change your tone of reply as you have come across as quite patronising, and condescending.

Good day sir.

I am sorry if you think I am patronising and condescending but when you say about can-bus and you want to connect to it, then you say about connecting something to 24 volts, and you now say you are experienced in all the things you say, I start to worry ! I have seen so many times what happens when connected to can bus, and seeing you are a newby to the site I was only trying to help.

I have just had one fitted and have also got the latest firmware and there is not a problem, but even the dealers would not know it has been retro fitted as it was done professionally,

Anyway you do what you want and hope it all goes well

Start at the reversing light bulbs and work back.
