keep buying the wrong main unit for octavia mk 3 columbus head unit

Featured Replies

bought part no 81A 035 044. this is an mib2 and i assumed any mib2 was interchangable between all vag cars. it appears i was wrong. installer says this won't run the columbus head unit i've bought separately (5E0 919 606)

after much research i think i need either of these two main units

3v0 035 020

3v0 035 021

but can work out the difference between them. can anyone help out?

You talk about the screen as the head unit. It's just a screen. The glovebox unit is the head unit and that is the Columbus part.

The screen isn't the issue, it is just a screen.

As marky said, the glovbox unit is the brain and has to be taiyored to your car.

Thanks - how do I find the part number for my car of the unit that goes in the glovebox

Check with @pab567

Give him your vin number, he will help you and sell you what you need.

He may be able to reflash your unit.

I upgraded my mib1 to mib2 with his help

Thanks but I think the unit that goes in the glove box is called the 'main' unit. The unit with the screen is the head unit

The terminology I used is the adopted naming convention in this forum and also many other places. It comes from the standard 1 or 2 din fitting head units as that is the size of the mib units. Most aftermarket head units have the control input/output part built in to the din section. Mib units do not, hence the naming above.

Also above is mentioned pab. He is the guru with this stuff and should be able to pick out the part numbers you need.

020 - no SIM (LTE modem), 021 - with SIM (LTE modem)

Amundsen units 5Q0035864B/5Q0035864C/5Q0035874B/5Q0035874C/565035864/565035875 will work as well

Do those units have car play thought. Thought I'd heard only the mib2 unit has car play

These seem crazy prices for something that is second hand. The Columbus option was only £750 when I bought car in 2016

Have you asked @pab567? He really will be able to help. There is probably coding required before you can use it and he can help with that.

Terrible price, I can deliver such unit, reworked, in P&P version, for 430 GBP plus shipping 20 GBP. Upon delivery you have to pay local import taxes / duties.

Plug and play.  It will work as soon as as it's connected.

Yes, P&P :)
