Correct bulbs for Facelift Citigo

Can anyone advise what bulbs are needed for a Facelift Citigo (2019). These headlights have the LED DRL along the bottom edge. I am thinking of installing nightbreakers instead of the standard bulbs.  The owners manual indicates two versions of the headlights

I am assuming mine will likely be version 2 as it excludes the DRL (which i assume on the LED DRLs is not user replaceable)..

Based on it being a version 2 headlight what bulbs do i need for D and E slots? Is it worth doing the indicators as well? (A).

Most of the websites seem to spec H4 replacement for both D and E slots. Just want to confirm that's correct before i go pulling the trigger online.

Does that mean I'd need to get 4 of these H4's https://www.amazon.co.uk/OSRAM-BREAKER-brightness-headlight-64193NB200-HCB/dp/B092JN6K85/ref=sr_1_3?crid=33K1F2TWL41RU&keywords=nightbreaker+h4&qid=1698314592&sprefix=nightbreaker+h4%2Caps%2C87&sr=8-3
or is there a different bulb for dipped?

thanks

Looks like H7's for both dipped and main beam from what i can tell from a quick inspection. just want something that's a closer match the the DRL's than currently.

Then you have the excellent twin-headlight lamp units. These were not available on any Up!, AFAIK, so a score for Skoda (not sure about Seat)

Your best legal course is Nightbreakers or similar. Stick to Philips or Osram - works out cheaper in the long run. The brighter these bulbs claim to be, the shorter their life, so don't max out.

Done the same to my Citigo.

Headlights are better than in my Fabia with the same quad H7 setup.

Oh thanks for the maxxing comment. Didn't really think about that. There are currently 3 variants of the H7

OSRAM NIGHT BREAKER SILVER H7, +100% more brightness, halogen headlamp, 64210NBS-HCB

OSRAM NIGHT BREAKER LASER H7, +150% more brightness, halogen headlight lamp, 64210NL-HCB

OSRAM NIGHT BREAKER 200, H7, +200% more brightness, halogen headlight lamp, 64210NB200-HCB

Varying in price from around £13 - £22 per pair. I was going to go for the +200% ones but may just plump for the cheapest now based on your comments. Any other feedback welcome.

thanks

I bought the 100% more version - still working after 2 years and the light output & beam pattern is pretty good.

Bear mind, like dB's and watts on a stereo, it's a diminishing return - I probably wouldn't notice the difference in the real world between +100 and +150. My guess is +200 is pushing reliability.

I can't help wondering if in fact these may be all the same bulbs but "binned" during the production test process - some brighter, some less less bright, so they go into different packaging. I don't really know about bulbs, but this is standard procedure for things like CPU or memory chips of varying speeds or power consumption....

I assume the technical definition of "range" is probably based on some minimum level of illumination of an object (or the road surface?)....

I can say, based on my own tests, the beam pattern of the nightbreakers is slightly better defined than the OEM bulbs fitted on mine. There is a particular stretch of road near my house (no street lights) where I can see how the well the beam falls onto a pole by the road!

Also, having done back-to-back driving in a couple of Citigo's at night on the same roads, I can say that when you are on main beam, the quad H7 system on mine is far better than the 2x H4 system on other models.   Anyone wishing to upgrade might check with a breaker's for twin lamp units instead of (or as well as nightbreakers!) the H4 systems. Be careful about FL versus pre-FL models though, as I'm not sure they are interchangeable (and you can't use any FL Skoda lamps on Up!s or vice versa )

umm. so i got some nightbreakers today. Went to fit them expecting to have the usual metal clips holding the bulbs and was confronted with what looks like torque or alan key type fittings? Can anyone confirm it's these that need removing and or loosening. I'm slightly concerned about dropping one into the engine bay.

worked it out.. they're just twist in and out. not that it was very easy getting them back in. getting the metal lugs to slide under those torx was hell. a few bits of missing skin. 😞

Well done.

Check beams are vertically aligned by viewing on a garage door or similar.

Lots of cars drive around with one lamp pointing skyward cos they swapped a bulb and didn't completely nail the refitting.

Did it myself once, oncoming cars flashing me clued me in.

I have always put a very small dab of grease on mine to help.

I also have a home made tool to help with the twist in & out fitting.

I have had to raise the beam direction under the bonnet to get the best out of them. 6mm Allen key.

Dont forget the headlight adjuster knob on the dash as well.

Do they work better?

Thanks. AG Falco

Could be something else going on with the lamp unit in question....

I have the twin bulb (2x H7) units, changed to nightbreakers and it was pretty simple to swap the bulbs.  Is there any sign of corrosion on any of the parts?

I have a Citigo 2018 and these were easy enough to change.

I have a Fabia III 2016 and these are harder to change and they look the same as the OP's photos.

I'm not sure what LEDs on an Octavia had to do with it all (I've had two Octavias) but on a Citigo, two H7 nightbreakers per lamp unit work pretty well for a budget runabout car. I have no problem with mine on badly lit Cornish roads.

thanks for that post. I haven't tried to swap the passenger (battery side) as the access was so tight. I was going to pop into my local VW specialist place where all my vehicles go and ask them if they'd take a look. At least i know it wasn't just me..
