VRS Petrol keeps losing throttle calibration

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've got a '09 VRS ltd, 2.0 TFSi and am having an irritating issue with the throttle.

During normal driving it's alright, although top end power is slightly reduced. City driving is a real pain, as throttle response is jerky at very low/low throttle, and when bringing up the clutch there is often a dip in power as you have to feather the pedal to the right place.

I don't have VCDS yet, but I do have a laptop based code reader which read no stored faults. The live data viewer suggested that the throttle position was reading between (and I forget the exact figures but it was something like) 18% and 88%.

I performed the calibration, "hold the pedal for 30 seconds with the ignition at run", procedure which solved the issue completely - for about 2 starts, then it returns to the same behaviour. At the moment I'm doing this calibration process basically every morning to make the car more drivable.

I've got loads of old paperwork for the car, and it had a throttle body replaced at 70k for 'low speed drivability issues'. The car is now at 109k.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what's going on?

Just guess work without a full scan. It would generally be recommended to start with a full scan of all modules. Not that you are guaranteed a fault code. Suggest try and find a VCDS or OBDeleven user, there is a listing on this site for user and locations. Or go to a garage and pay for a full scan.

It is possible the electronic pedal itself faulty. But just an educated guess based on your symptoms.
