Stereo with built-in wireless Android Auto / carplay

Featured Replies

Hello guys,

Does anyone know of a stereo unit that has a built-in wireless Android Auto / carplay functionality?

I don't fancy having to connect a wireless dongle to connect my phone wirelessly. I need something that'll be a straight swap.

Fabia MK2 (2014)

Thanks

Check this thread out :) Some recommendations in it.

@DanielFenech Great, thank you. I will check it out.

Also, recently I was looking to install the Amundsen+ in mine, to keep it as stock as possible.  Did you look into them? Shouldn't be too big of a deal, and can find used units at a decent price :) (Though doubt they'd offer same things as Apple/Android Auto)

First I've heard of them mate, I'll have a look at them. I currently have Android Auto on my stereo unit, but it's a wired one. I wanted a wireless one where you don't have to use a USB dongle to connect it to your phone for the wireless function. I might just keep this, as the ones with the built-in wireless function are hard to find.

A "cheap" 7" Android - avoid Win Ce which may be where many of the issues are seen, as many Ebay adverts call these Android - may do everything you want as I cannot understand this fascination with Android Auto/Carplay given the number of great apps available that could be loaded onto the headunit. Can you clarify "wireless" as I would expect Bluetooth to be the phone to headunit interface generally used although I understand either Apple Carplay or Android Auto require a wired connection . My £60 Android unit (fitted years ago so no doubt the units with newer Android and more Ram are even better) has bluetooth, any music I want loaded as MP3's, Sat Nav, facility for reversing camera.

I've had a good look at the Chinese ones on Ebay and I've found a few that have wireless Carplay but none of them have wireless Android Auto. I think I'll just keep my current unit as it has the wired Android Auto function already.  You can buy dongle separately to turn it into a wireless Android Auto device but then I'd have to have a big ugly dongle sticking out from the USB port of the stereo. Thanks for your help
