Been thinking for some time of getting myself a classic car , would love an old Skoda 110R, but cant find anything out there:thumbdwn: . Been watching fleabay for some time and have spoted this

Have chatted with the seller by phone, and he welcomes inspection of the car, but being in Ireland, I cant just drive over myself to have a look:thumbdwn: , so was wondering if anyone from the area with "some" knowledge of cars would mind checking it out for me;) . Price might end up higher than my limit anyway:eek: , but if not, it would be great to have had someone check it out for me:D

Well, I'm not near it and I know nothing about old Fords, however my suggestion (if you haven't already done it) is to look on the internet and you'll probably find a more appropriate forum full of fans of classic Fords who could give you much more useful advice. The more research you can do before buying, the better.

Also, what are you going to do with the car if you do buy it - use it as a daily driver, take it out to shows and on sunny weekends, finish restoring it or just shut it away in a garage? Bear in mind that it looks like it hasn't been driven that far lately (either that or the seller is obsessive about keeping it clean!), so would you be prepared to "spoil" it by taking it out onto the roads, getting it dirty and wearing out the mechanical bits? Try and be realistic - ebay seems to be full of older cars that were bought on a whim and are now sitting idle as the owner hasn't got around to doing anything with them.

Finally, I'm not a potential purchaser, but if I were I would be put off by the interior, I can't understand why it's been left in its current state if the seller has restored the rest of it so thoroughly. I'd either want to get rid of that awful blue carpet and steering wheel, put in more original-looking carpet and get the seats refurbished, or else fit some newer hot-rod-style seats to give the whole interior an updated retro look (but that's just my personal opinion).

Is it a good buy? If you love that model and you don't end up paying more than it's worth (to you), then its value to you will be much more than you paid. :hooray:

Thanks for your input, the plan would be to get the seats recovered and use it on sunny day drives, would not be quitee as fussy about keeping it as the current owner, but yes l do plan on looking after it well.

Car will be locked away in dry garage when not in use, and from what I have been told, mechanical parts are not to hard to come by, but body panels are a diff story.

Anyway, going to keep an eye on it till nearer time, see if is still in my budget range, then make my mind up on the "to bid or not to bid" question.

Am in hampshire could make it to eastleigh without a problem, however the only old ford i have knowledge of is a MKIII Fiesta i stripped and rebuilt.

Other than that I'm a diesels person, but could probably work out a general condition for you ask I tend to be able to spot problems a long way off. A local used dealer doesn't like me cause i see all the iffy paintwork repairs a mile off.

I'd go with getting somebody with a bit more knowledge to have a look mind.

It looks good in the photos, with any old car it is the condition of the body and interior which is important, both of which look good with the exception of the drivers seat, the mechanicals are usually simple, robust, in-expensive and easy to repair.

You have had the advantage of talking to the seller and from the description it sounds as though he is a true enthusiast and will be anxious to see it go to a good home.

For its value, if you take into account the time and money already spent, then it will be sold at a loss, it is a unique car and is worth what you are willing to pay for it. You could do some research to find out what these have been selling for and for prices of the parts required if you were to restore one.

Sorry forgot to add, has it had an age related number issued to it? The original may have been lost due to a lapse in the paperwork or a cherished number transfer.

Would need to get new plates here in Ireland, so what it comes with is not really a prob, its "book" value from what I have read is about £2,500, however this car is now at £3,200, (over €4,500 without shipping costs) with time still left, think it will be outside my reach before the sale ends anyway.

Thanks for the replys guys, and Cheezemonkhai,, thanks for the offer, I do have a feeling the car is about as good as it could be without ever having someone check it for me, and to a point, feel it should go to somebody who will be able to "lavish" the time needed to keep it in A1+ condition.

Will watch as the time runs down on the sale, would love the car, but is kinda the 1st car I saw when started looking for a "classic", so wont be to upset if I dont get it as am sure there are lots of great cars out there.

Well, as l guessed, car sold for £4,600 in the end, good luck to the lucky buyer, in a slighty drunkin state last night went and bought myself this tho

Thats what I thought, until I got there to collect it:eek:

Seller said there was some rust, and sent me 2 pix to show it to me, turns out he should have sent me 12 others also

Ment to be "perfect" mechanical order ,am guessing it was only running on 3cylinders, something was causing it to run so badly that at idle (when it would idle) I thought it was going to shake itself off of the engine mounts:eek:

Oil light flashed on while driving along, when parked up found oil leaking badly down both sides of the engine:finger:

He lied continually about how and when he got the car, 1st saying he had it 7 mths, then about 4, then was his friends car and he was selling it for him, then when l asked for the number of his friend so l might speak with him, he told me he had only just bought the car and did not know the guy at all:confused:

I honestly did not think the car would make the drive home, so no way l could buy it, asked for my deposit of £250 back, he refused so am now chasing it up with PayPal and eBay.

Trip cost me alot and nothing to show for it:thumbdwn: . Am so pi$$ed off with this guy, he is young, am guessing he bought it, someone looked at it for him, told him what a heap of $hite it really was and to get rid of it again:finger:

Oh well, the Skoda S100 is still for sale in the north of Ireland, (check www.johnmulhollandmotors.com )waiting for extra pictures of it to be sent to me now, and if it looks good, will go up next friday to check it out, and maybe come home with the car I really wanted in the 1st place:thumbup:

Hopefully the VW being a non runner is a blessing in disguise. Sorry to hear about the hassle mate.

Sounds like the only place that should buy that is a VW beetle recon specialist.
