Am I mad???

Featured Replies

Have been toying with the idea of buying a Series1 RS Turbo (I know it's a Ford, but they just have something), Think I can get a good one for around £3.5-4K!

Am I mad?? I could do the following aswell I spose:

A)Buy an S1 RS Turbo

B) Brembo 4 pot the fabia, BFOFMIC, Sports Cat and Zorst, Uprated clutch, Coilovers and custom Remap!

C) 1.8T my Corrado

or

D) Sell the C and with the extra cash go for summat a bit more exotic like an E30 M3 (The only Beemer I would ever consider) or a 944 Turbo etc???

I'm looking for some advice here guys, I have money burning a hole and an itch to spend it

Pro's and Con's?????

Cheers

Steve

The RST S1 is a nice motor and should be reasonably cheap to maintain ;) Lot of money though.

Personally, I'd do one of two things:

1. 1.8t a Scirocco :D

2. Get the E30 - they are jolly nice cars to drive, not massively fast but very well balanced. Done an 8.15 BTG at the Ring in one to give you some idea  Get a good one and you are laughing.

Actually, only option 2 is really "sensible", the first one is just something I'd like to do if I had some spare cash.

I wouldn't get the 944, much as I like them - they are expensive if they go wrong.

Leave the Fabia alone, it isn't your "fun" car so may as well keep it as is and get something to "play" with.

I have an idea Steve.

Give the said money to me & I'll spend it wisely!! :D

Seriously though, 1.8T Corrado is a tempting idea, as is the E30 M3.

Series 1 RST is basically CVH engine, which is reknowned for the "black death".

Series one RS turbos are usually rot boxes and some of the clean ones are usually knackered underneath they just look good cosmetically, powers nothing special and tuned ones blow p a lot if not done properly and suffer from lots of torque steer so i wouldn't bother with one really

E30 M3's are great and are respected for having a well balanced chassis but power isn't much by todays standards but would still be my choice of the two if i could find a RHD one cheap enough, don't think i could live with a LHD one

and 1.8t into a corrado sounds interesting but it can have hidden costs plus its a lot of money to put into a car and when you come to sell it on you'd be lucky to get much more money for it than any other corrado but if your not bothered by this or you intend to keep it then go for it

M3 all the way, it'll be a car you'll never want to get rid off, finding one with a decent low mileage might be tricky.

These sometimes have (older M3 ) they have been around for years with a good rep.

They have a nice M5 est.

I personally like the RS Turbo, even better was the RS1600i, they were pretty rare and there were probably more replicas than genuine ones, lovely seats.

First off sit down and relax a bit!

Then spend the money on a motorbicycle.:D

how about a different random old turbo pocket rocket :D

a 323 gtr

charade gtti

a micra super turbo

I have one of them :)

Definately not Option D... Option A, if your familiar with Davids P40... if not C is your best option!

Chris

iirc P40 is body filler or as i call it "car in a can " , i'd go for the M3

You cant beat old cars, think of a car you always wanted as a kid, (obviously not the ferraris and such like) then go out and be amazed at how little they cost now!

It's great fun, I'm working my way down my list of cars I always wanted to own and am currently on a 91 Alfa 75 3.0 V6, rwd great balance due to rear mounted gearbox etc and all for the princely sum of £600!

It's also really enjoyable working on older cars as you can do it all yourself, no complicated electronics getting in the way! and I usually make a small profit on them when I sell them on too!!
