Smartlink Fail

Featured Replies

So; the latest episode in the endless saga of infotainment disasters has just occurred.

For the last year I've been getting in my 21 plate 1.5SE, switching on infotainment, selecting Smartlink, connecting my S22 via Bluetooth and making calls.

Not today.

Wouldn't connect and started telling me to "turn on WiFi". It' never asked that before. When I tried to do just that it was "unable to connect".

The smartlink main menu failed to appear.

However: when I switched off the engine and used my phone in my hand, the phonecall info appeared on the infotainment screen. When the call ended, the screen reverted to "unable to connect" with no smartlink menu showing.

When I went into the main menu to turn on WiFi, as asked, it said that turning it on would disable the e-sim. I did that but was told once again that it was "unable to connect".

Anyone any ideas what's going on or what to do about it?

Any assistance appreciated.

I've had the similar issue with my Android phone where it says it can't connect, but I've never the instruction to turn on the wifi. I think the wifi instruction is related to the wifi of the car not your phone, is that your understanding as well. I'll see if I can find how to turn the car wifi on and off.

Hi LuxoviaRS, many thanks for your reply. Yes, my understanding was that I was to turn on the car WiFi.

It has never asked me to do that previously.

Welcome. Yes, that's strange, I would think it would be on already. 🤔. So you turned it on and nothing happened then?

Yes, I turned it on and the "unable to connect" message came up. I'm loath to contact my main dealer but I may have to.

Yeah I think you may,  unless someone else here can help.  Maybe a OTA software update can rectify the issue if it persists and also available for you, I'm just not right person to advice about this thing though. Otherwise the dealer is the best bet. All the best with it

No problem,  I just wish I could be of more help.

Update:

just went out to the car and smartlink now (bizarrely) connects.
However; whereas previously when on a call the screen showed the phone menu with Google Maps minimised so you could still navigate, it now reverts to the smartlink Android auto logo when you're using the phone with no map or phone menu visible! Useless.

  • 2 months later...

To me happens the same with Amundsen in a Fabia 2019 the last time in Monday did that first started with intermittent disconnections then doesn't even connected I tried with two Android phones and neither did and also with an iphone not worked at all is a nuisance this even occurs randomly and it's not updates to my head unit neither . The bizarre thing is that when is the car off and then it's  shut on the problem gets solved but randomly does that.

How did your fixed the problem?

Greetings

I've had this and the only way I could remedy it was to do a factory reset and start again so that all the internal WiFi settings etc were as they were when I first got the car and worked correctly.
