Honestly...

So many people on here state that when in an incident and describe said incident on Briskoda that they were doing the NSL and no more... Come one... Some of you are Saints, the rest - no way...

Here goes, my speeds... Gulp...

in 30 mph limits - no more than 35ish if over the NSL at all

same in 40 mph

60 - might creep upto 70

motorway etc - 80 ish (used to cruise everywhere at 85+ but got done and it was a good wake up call) :thumbdwn:

Still have moments of childishness - like on the A34 last night:eek: ... But overall quite law abiding

The reason I put this up is that at 80 on the M4 last night barely any cars were being overtaken and I actually felt like I was keeping people up overtaking lorries in the middle lane at 80. Peeps going towards Reading and London were easily all going at 85-95 mph...:o :P

Same on my daily commute from Cheltenham to Worcester...

So, who are the Saints and who are the naughty ones? :confused:

I admit to being a naughty one, but I am not going to post just how naughty ;)

I wouldn't like to post that either. But again Im sure nearly everyone has been very naughty at times!!!!

I guess most are naughty if trying to sit on the limit without cruise control.

Wouldn't mind knowing what the tolerances are, given there's talk of clamping down on 20 zones now. Presumably the cost of speed bumps is being written off. :rolleyes:

Mo

I'm somtimes naughty, Not been over SWMBO's knee yet though.....;)

I'm certainly no saint :rolleyes:

I try to obey all 30 and 40mph limits in built up areas, however on NSL roads my speed will sometimes creep up by a bit - I will not say by how much though :rolleyes:

30=50

40=60

50=70/75

70=85/95

Allegedly

I'm certainly no saint :rolleyes:

Ditto... :rolleyes:

I could not post how slow I drive at!

In neither camp - I'm just making progress, officer, that's all ;)

Steve

I drive a diesel, so yes, I drive very slowly.

Guilty.

I just drive at the speed that I feel confortable doing with the road conditions and the volume of traffic. I guess sometimes I exceed the speed limit, and sometimes I might be under it. I am touching wood as I say this, as I am yet to be caught going above the speed limit.

IMO it is just as dangerous for some little old lady doing 55 on a motorway (steriotype I know), while the rest of the traffic is doing 70, than it is having a couple of people overtaking at 95+.

I obey 30s and 40s. In 50s I do up to about 55. NSL and motorways I make adequate progress, but very rarely go anywhere near a speed that would earn me a ban (there are exceptions to this of course, sometimes I have been known to exceed the limit by quite some margin ie more than double the limit).

So, I'm no saint. However, if I get caught I will not come on here and bleat about it - do the crime, do the time.

I like to make reasonable progress safely and where appropriate to do so.... :D

Chris

I always make an effort to drive at 30 in a 30 - even if its a "daft" 30 (I grew up in a house where people used to speed past all the time)

Motorways - 80ish

Generally I go with the flow, but on an NSL A or B road it could be anywhere up to 100mph.

but on an NSL A or B road it could be anywhere up to 100mph.

How are people gonna see you posing at those sort of speeds? :confused:

:rofl:

Chris

Lightweight! :haha:

theres some roads that are really wide and long straights with 30 or 40 on - tbh i find it very hard to keep to it becuase its such a drag.

i respect intown limits and small villages, other than that i drive at speeds where i feel safe. i was on the a30 single carrigeway yesterday - 5+ cars infront of me all doing 85+ nearly touching a ton at some points cruising normall everyday cars not a rare site these days, i do think they should up some limits

I tend to drive at the speed of the other cars on the road. Alot of the time this is within the limits (espxially when I know there will be a mobile camera).

However I always find if I do 30mph in a 30 zone I near to always get overtaken or have a bmw/audi/VW/merc on my bumper.

I also have fun sometimes.

Anyone else noticed the recurring comment, "Speed at which I feel safe."

Mo

Not from me, I like being on the edge of control, especially near schools and coffin dodger homes :rofl:

Must not say something like 'is 30 mph the edge :P ' ;) ;)

Pretty much if the speed limit posted is < 50 mph I won't speed more than a few mph on speedo, tend to try to be accurate but I may slip over by say 1..3 mph I suppose. At higher posted limits etc things vary between moods, driving conditions (wet/dry/quiet/busy) as well as time of day and road.

Road works, near schools during school hours etc just increases my willingness to stick to or below the speed limit.

Not a saint but I do try to make the effort where I feel it matters I suppose. If I get done for speeding it will be as I am speeding, which is my choice and fault if I were to do so, and I gracefully (not gratefully) accepted the 3 points/fixed penalty I got when I did..

I try and make an effort to drive at the speed limit or below in any kind of built up area.

I only drive stupidly when the only danger is to myself, the hedge and my pride.

Would you prefer we drove at a speed we felt was dangerous?

I drive at a speed I feel is safe given the road and conditions at the time , and the posted limit is one of many factors that I take into account when deciding this.

Why is it that if we are intelligent enough to decide that the safe speed at that time is below the limit we are praised , but when we can clearly see that the safe speed is above that limit we must be wrong?

69 Mph is the fastest i'll ever go...
