Running temp dropping when heaters on. Please Help?

Featured Replies

So I have a 2006 Fabia VRS which has ALWAYS warmed up to 90 degrees (halfway) and never moved regardless.

However intermittently last couple of months but every day for last 3 days once the car reaches 90 degree running temp if i put the heater blower on the running temp drops down to around 60 degrees (near bottom) I turn the blowers off and set to cold and it will rise back to normal at 90 degrees and stay constant until I put blowers on again then this just repeats.

Would really appreciate any advice from anyone who has bottomed this issue out. I’ve seen a few threads but nothing with agreed fix. TIA guys!!

Blowing air through the heater matrix to warm the cabin will reduce the temperature of the coolant, The temp sensor is most often on the return part of the system going back to the radiator so if it was me i would not be worried unless the heater ran cold.

Thanks Stonekeeper, my only worry is that it has NEVER dropped in the slightest previously and I’ve had the car 6 years, so somethings changed. I’m reading car will use more fuel and it’s not healthy over time for the engine??
I’ve also read on hear people have changed thermostat and sensor with no change so was hoping someone had a succesful fix with the same issue🤞

You could try reducing the blower speed and using the recirculate cabin air setting to see if that makes a difference.

I would put a new thermostat in for how much one costs and they are easy to fit other than you will loose a bit of coolant.

Me too, and I wouldn't buy the absolute bottom end of the price range either, as repeating the job would be annoying.

Thanks guys think I’ll plump for OEM from Skoda with new housing. I’ll update once fitted👍

Ok, so bought a new Thermostat, housing and o ring from Skoda at £88. Had it fitted today and seems to be a lot better. See how it goes.

Thanks guys👍
