Tyre sizing for 2005 Skoda Fabia 1.9TDi

Featured Replies

Hi there. I have a MK1 Skoda diesel estate. When I bought it a year or two ago I replaced all the tyres. I used one of those online tyre fitter comparison websites. After inputting my registration number the tyres I was advised to buy were 185/60/r14s.

They need replacing again and when I searched this time the same online search function recommends 205/70/r15s.

I'm confused. Can anyone advise

If you currently have 14" wheels as suggested by 185/60R14, then you need a tyre size ending in R14, or different wheels as well as tyres.

What size have you on now?  Are you OK with replacing with the same again?

Those can not both be right. 14" wheels will not fit 15" tyres and vice versa.

The answer is incredibly simple, just buy the same sized tyres you bought last time!

It sounds like you need 185/60R14. This is one of the standard tyre sizes for the Fabia MK1 1.9TDI 100HP, and is the standard tyre size if you have the 6Jx14 ET37 rim specification.

The only other Fabia MK1 14" rim specification is a 1" narrower 5Jx14 ET35, but that normally comes with a narrower 165/70R14 tyre size, not the wider 185/60R14.

185/60R14 is an economical tyre size, as shown in the example below.

My 2001 1.9 has listed in original Skoda spec card 2 sizes

1. 185/60/R14 82H/6Jx14 ET43. (Steel rims)

2. 195/50/R15 (Alloy)

I had a mixture of ET35 and ET43 offsets which caused an issue with certification.

All that matters is the size of wheels the OP has on their car and the tyre size they bought last time and do they want the same this time.
