Seatbelt and airbag warning - 2006 Octavia L&K

Featured Replies

My 2006 Octavia has developed a really irritating intermittent fault. The seatbelt warning light randomly illuminates, with accompanying loud "dinging" noise.

This only appears to happen when there is a passenger in the front seat, so I assumed the problem was the sensor or wiring for that seat and disconnected the 2 multi-plugs under the passenger seat.  This did not solve the problem, and also meant that the airbag warning light came on, so I re-connected them but now the airbag warning light won't go out

I looked in the owner's manual and it implies that the seatbelt warning only applies to the driver's seat. Does anyone know if this is correct, because the problem with the seatbelt warning only happens when someone is in the passenger seat?

So I have 2 problems now. The airbag warning light, which I presume needs re-setting because I disconnected the wiring for the airbag, and the original intermittent fault with the seat belt warning.

The car is a 2006 L&K so has heated leather "sports" seats.

So 3 questions.

1. Does the seatbelt warning only apply to the driver's seat? (In which case it is just coincidence that the problem only occurs when I have a passenger).

2. Can I reset the airbag warning light myself, or do I have to take it to a VAG/Skoda garage?

3. Can I disable the seat belt warning light/bell myself?

Thanks in advance.

It's a latching warning light, and you need a garage or a bought VCDS to reset it.

I get this same problem with my 2010 L&K on the drivers side. I get seat belt warning plus the electric adjustment to move seat forwards or backwards will only move the seat towards the steering wheel even if moving away from the steering wheel is selected. It seems to be a bad connection with one of the connectors under the drivers seat. If I "exercise" these connectors the fault will clear. This spring / summer I'm going to take the drivers seat out so I can see if there is any corrosion on the plugs pins / sockets.

I’ve just had this seatbelt warning thing with my mk2 Octavia. Same scenario with the passenger being present. I realised yesterday that the height adjuster on the passenger side (that slide thing on the door pillar) wasn’t locked in place properly. Went out today and no bings! I’ve no idea if this is the answer. Fingers crossed though…
