Auto hand brake sticking when driving off

Featured Replies

Hi,

I notice that when I drive off, the auto handbrake seems reluctant to release or the brakes are binding on.

Anyone else have this issue ?

Anything to worry about ?

Car is only 4 months old.

It is certainly not good, sad really from a new car,

but are you in the UK / UK weather, is the car used daily. Do the rear discs have cosmetic corrosion on them when sitting for not very long.

It is not going to get better with the passage of time so be sure to let the Dealership know.

There is a 6 month / 6,500 mile limit on some things.    Likely they will say 'They all do that',  maybe even 'Never heard of that before'.

A clean up of the brakes might help but quite likely will not.

Try this... It's £3 from Euro Car Parts.

So not much to lose if it doesn't work, but it's one box that you can tick.

Hi!

Was searching solutions for other problems with this constantly broken car and saw ur post. Wanted to reply, as I had this problem couple of months ago. For me the problem occurred mainly when reversing and especially on rainy days. Just felt like the hand break was on and would not let go.

The car was at the dealer for some time but finally they got a repair plan from the skoda factory. ABS/ESC unit had to be replaced... Cost for only the part was 2351€, labor 400€ in Finland.

My warranty had ended just few months ago. Luckily Skoda paid 100% for the new ABS/ESC unit and 50% for labor costs. Sadly it took almost 6 months to get the problem fixed.

Hope ur car has been fixed already. If not I hope this helps 👍🏼

Thanks

I havent had it into the dealer yet - and it is not as bad as it was.

Its a company lease car, so I wont be out opf pocket -

Is it a manual?

I had a similar issue on my Mk3.5 Leon - as a secondary issue to the car liking to cut out when i pulled out of junctions unless i gave it lots of beans.

it was traced back to a clutch position sensor which was recalibrated and stopped the cutting out for most part but it also seemed to deal with break issue.

It also wont release if it thinks a door is option but would imagine that would be showing on the display if that was an issue.

Thanks

This is an auto

Actually - it seems to have resolved itself - maybe just sticky brake pads or something .
