Power Increase ????

Featured Replies

Does anyone have any ideas as to how i can get a bit more power out of my fabia 1.2? at the moment it only has 54bhp and I'm tired of getting overtaken by grannies on shopping scooters!!!!!!!. Would having the engine bored out be the answer ???????

A car with a bigger engine? I doubt there is much that can be done.

There isn't really anything practical or cost effective other than buying a car with a bigger engine.

I have to concur with the above - a car with a more powerful engine would be the only sensible and cost effective option.

nothing you can to to the 1.2 6v.

See if there are any JATO bottles on Ebay.

That should be good for a laugh on the M1.

For those of you unfamiliar with the whole JATO in a car thing/Urban legand here is is.

I can just see Clarkson sending Hammond out to recreate this...

"The Arizona Highway Patrol came upon a pile of smoldering metal embedded into the side of a cliff rising above the road at the apex of a curve. the wreckage resembled the site of an airplane crash, but it was a car. The type of car was unidentifiable at the scene. The lab finally figured out what it was and what had happened.

It seems that a guy had somehow gotten hold of a JATO unit (Jet Assisted Take Off - actually a solid fuel rocket) that is used to give heavy military transport planes an extra 'push' for taking off from short airfields. He had driven his Chevy Impala out into the desert and found a long, straight stretch of road. Then he attached the JATO unit to his car, jumped in, got up some speed and fired off the JATO!

The facts, as best could be determined, are that the operator of the 1967 Impala hit JATO ignition at a distance of approximately 3.0 miles from the crash site. This was established by the prominent scorched and melted asphalt at that location. The JATO, if operating properly, would have reached maximum thrust within five seconds, causing the Chevy to reach speeds well in excess of 350 MPH, continuing at full power for an additional 20-25 seconds. The driver, soon to be pilot, most likely would have experienced G-forces usually reserved for dog-fighting F-14 jocks under full afterburners, basically causing him to become insignificant for the remainder of the event. However, the automobile remained on the straight highway for about 2.5 miles (15-20 seconds) before the driver applied and completely melted the brakes, blowing the tires and leaving thick rubber marks on the road surface, then becoming airborne for additional 1.4 miles and impacting the cliff face at a height of 125 feet, leaving a blackened crater 3 feet deep in the rock.

Most of the driver's remains were not recoverable; however, small fragments of bone, teeth and hair were extracted from the crater, and fingernail and bone shards were removed from a piece of debris believed to be a portion of the steering wheel.

Incredibly, an intact bumper sticker was recovered as well. The text on the sticker was; "How do you like my driving? Dial 1-800-3475H17"

Thanks For The replys , you seem to have confirmed my worst fears !!!!! I have just recently put my lotus elan up for sale to try and finace a 1.8 octy or a fabia vrs, the trouble is I'm 19 with 3 points on my license and am concerned about how much it would cost to insure either of them can anyone tell me how much they pay a year?

would perhaps a 1.4 16v 100hp fabia be a bit more middle of the road as you've got points?

They sure do, and a 1.9 TDI 100hp.

Comfort/Ambiant (depending on how new you buy) is best guise for the car as it has all the kit you'd ever really want/need

Back of the net! all I need now is for someone to buy me bloody lotus and i'll be down to the dealer like a shot.

Belive me a lot of fun can be had from a slightly (cough) traicked pd100, if you in South London give us a shout.....

:( North East!!!!!!!!!:(

The PD100 will tune up very nicely to about 150ish bhp IIRC with a little remapping action. Not sure what the impact on premiums are with points/age etc but it's worth checking out the options :)

As with what everone else has said, unfortunatley Petrol Fabia's are pretty hard to tune. 1.4 8v and 2.0 8v have some performance parts as they have been around since a year that begins with B.C. I Beleive someone on here turbocharged a 1.4MPI for about £600. Maybe you could do the same for a rather extravagant project

Everytime i read/hear that story, i just can't help grinning like an idiot...

where abouts in the north east?

I have one and I'm very please with it. I can recommend it.

I read several places that VW Polo and Golf are going to make a 1.4 16v 170BHP Turbo (100 bhp engine +70 turbo). I like this little engine so much that I may just get that car instead of a VRS. Not sure yet.

Although that rumor sounds like nonsense. I hope its true because 1.4 with a turbo is just funny .

That'll be the VW super-turbo  Its a supercharged turbo and WILL make it into production.

it's already listed on the VW web site under the "GT" model:

GT 1.4 TSI 170PS 6spd 5dr

Oh I remember, a supercharger for low revs and a turbo for high revs. I really want one. It just sounds bonkers and fun :D. Aparently the mpg isn't to bad if you drive it normally.

Hmmmm wonder how long before one of the TSIs is in a scrappy ;):D
