1.9 tdi problems please help

Featured Replies

Hi everyone i need your help

I have a 1.9 tdi 110 asv engine 2001 and have the following faults bearing in mind the car has 131000 mls

1/ have to keep topping up g12 coolant but no signs of leakage

2/ climate control inoperative- compressor clutch not engaging but system is fully charged

3/ engine feels sluggish i.e no boost like my fathers 1.9 tdi golf 105 hp not sure whether engine should be like a golf as i have not driven another octavia

Any ideas on the above would be greatly appreciated

3. My 2001 110TDi has a sluggish engine, to which I have not located the cause of yet :-( About this time last year I had to replace the MAF, n75 valve and turbo :-( Initially it might be worth cleaning the MAF (there are various posts in here about how to do that), also check the air filter is clean. Mine is up to 91k now..... the work was done last year around the 75k mark.

Can you find someone local with vag-com to check it out for you?

2. Are you sure the outer clutch part is still on the compresser? they have a habbit of falling off, are usually found lying on the undertray. If so you will need to buy a new clutch pully kit, type depending on the part number of the compresser.

1) Is there any 'mayonaise' in the oil or coolant tank. If so head gasket may be on it's way out. Otherwise it is probably wheeping somewhere. I have seen weeping coolant leaks on the right hand side of the engine as you look in from the front of the car. If there is no sign of a leak however then there are only a few places it can go.

2) However if they come off the compressor rather than just being a little loose they can damage the compressor, requiring a whole new compressor :(

I'd pay a visit to an independant air conspecialist if you don't have some sort of dealer warrenty on the car as they will charge you more like £250-500 as opposed to £500-1000 for a compressor, and will obviously be able to diagnose the system quite well for you too.

3) The PD105 and TDi 110 are similar to drive, I would say the 110 feels a little more forceful, however if you drop the drivers window, you should definately hear the turbo boosting. The turbos have been known to stick up on the TDI 110, due to the variable vanes not moving, however you would probably end up with an overboost error etc in the ECU. I'd get somebody with VAGCOM or a dealer to read the error codes. If the turbo is sticking it can most often be removed and cleaned up or an exhange unit put in as opposed to buying a whole new turbo.

Welcome to the site, hopefully some of the more knowledgeable people around here can help you out more.
