Haldex Failure

Haldex doesn't seem to be engaging on my 2011 skoda yeti. Video is off car in off road mode with tcs disengaged. I'd imagine I should be getting some more movement out of the rear wheels if it was functioning?

When did it last work and when was it last properly serviced, oil changed and filter / pump clean up?

 

Possibly the corrosion of the electrics which is covered on here quite a bit.

There was mention some while back (I think it was @J.R.) when it was pointed out that the Haldex system is only triggered when the OFFside front wheel loses traction, as opposed to a full 4WD system where all wheels are active all the time the system is engaged.

 

Correction: OFFside front wheel (in the UK), not nearside.

I can't exactly say for sure but I would have thought up until relatively recently. It almost certainly did at some stage of ownership in the past 18 months. It had a main dealer haldex service about 9000km ago at 138,000km but they mightn't even check it's functioning just replace oil and filter and away with it

 

It has had a full main dealer service history but some of it is in french and cant see any obvious mention of a haldex service... surely a main dealer wouldnt miss that.

thanks, the front right wheel was definitely spinning based on the slap of muck I got sticking my head out the window!!

Were the front wheels spinning while the video was taken?

 yes both front wheels were in muck and spinning, off road engaged and tcs off: doing 2000-2500 rpm. Back wheels were on a more gravely mucky roadway. Video doesn't show it well but it was done on an incline onto a wet muddy field from a gravel roadway so i'd be able to reverse out of it.

If those videos showed what the front wheels were doing they would be more useful.

The Haldex will only engage (subject to a few other points which are not relevant atm) when slip is sensed in either of the front wheels. The ORB does NOT turn it on; it is on all the time just not engaged. And as soon as you reduce power it dis-engages.

Get a fault code read done. Common failure is the pump reporting back as failed but a new pump often does not work because the ECU is water damaged. Getting a Gen 4 ECU off is often a sketch as the lower M4 screw rots in the case and easily snaps off flush. Getting the broken piece out is very tricky as there is no inline access so I get a specialist to come out and remove it. We always fit a new pump anyway and replace the filter (which VAG refuse to admit is there). The important point is to throughly blow the system out with brake cleaner and compressed air as it gets full of disgusting goo.

Sounding like a main dealer job to get to the bottom of it... is there an earth to check on the yeti? I can see there are on other haldex cars but nothing specific to the yeti.

Best go to someplace that knows what they are doing and that charges a fair hourly rate.
