Brake lights not working glow plug flashing

Featured Replies

Hello,

First time posting here. Noticed my tail brake lights were not working so I replaced them with P21w bulbs. After replacing there's now glow plug light flashing on the dashboard and none of the brake lights work, not even the upper LED one. Cruise control is not working either.

I haven't replaced the fuse(s) yet but took a glance at some of them and everything seemed OK. Ran OBD test and got error code 16955 indicating fault brake switch. I replaced the brake light switch but that didn't clear the problem.

Could someone help me with this issue? What I'm thinking of trying next is:

1. Replace the fuse(s)

2. Replace the brake light switch again

3. Check the bulb connections and circuit for corrosion

4. have P21w5 bulbs also. Should I try those?

Is there anything else I should look for or try out? Which fuses should I replace? Does the glow plug light clear itself if and when the issue is sorted out?

Thanks!

From where did you buy the replacement brake light switch?

Genuine are not heartbreakingly expensive.

Bought an generic switch since genuine is not available in my country (Finland)

No VW or Skoda dealerships?

Are you anywhere close to this place?

I know the guy that runs it.

He would solve this very rapidly if you need help.

There's dealerships but couldn't find one off the shelf so decided to try generic one. I'll try to look for a genuine part.

I'm also curious about the correct part number. The one that was originally installed is 3B0 945 511B. In the useful part numbers topic is listed 6Q0 945 511 (https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/262601-useful-part-numbers-5j/?do=findComment&comment=4447810) .

Which one should I look for?

Unfortunately no, I live in different city. Thanks for suggestion though!

It was unlikely you would be neighbours, but worth asking.

Definitely! So next step look for genuine switch, replace fuses and double check bulbs.

Do you know if there's anything else to look for?

On my old fabia I had to re fit the same.one about 3 times before it worked I can't remember if it's because I fitted in the relaxed or pressed in position, I vaguely remember a thread about it ,but at first I got nothing but after trying again it was fine
