:weeping: Tears in my eyes

Remeber watching a lot of them when they happened...........so much talent ...gone.

Certainly a tear jerker.. :(

Very sad...............gone but not forgotten.............

This has a very big thread on PistonHeads.com.

The good old days as everyone talks about, what a load of BS.

Also never forget the club racers that do for the love of racing and not the money.

And all the Isle of Man TT Racers

RIP...........

Yup.

When you see then trying to put fires out with a single tiny extinguisher........

I was deeply mooved by that.

As has been said I remember watching most of them on the TV as they happened.

What a shame!!!!

It's amazing that some of those crashes in todays cars would have the drivers dazed but not seriously injured.

Just watching the cars-of-the-past self-destruct on impact makes you realise how strong and safe the cars have become.

MPM

frightening how quickly you can go from being in your prime to dead.

Such a waste of life.

Was the music all by evanescence? Fitting music.

Yes...in huge leaps, the cars we drive...a little better?

That chap who tried to help Roger Williamson deserves a bloody medal, you can see how gutted he was to walk away :(

I think Nigel Mansell stopped and went into a fire to get someone out of a car as the marshalls couldn't due to the heat.....but that one survived

saddest video ive ever seen. :( r.i.p.

Yes it was Evernessence (spelling)

Very moving.

The guy who tried to get Rodger out was his mate.

I remember watching that and balling my eyes out.

It is sad , but very very moving.

Well made I thought.

Quite graphic

i think it was Graham Hill?

I think having an accident and catching fire is the one that scares us all, that and crashing into water.

With fires a lot can be said for the nomex suits used today compared to the proban suits of the old days. Each layer of nomex gives upto 10 seconds of protection so if you have a three layer suit and underwear you'd be looking at upto 40 seconds. Couple this with plumbed in fire extinguishers and you can see why deaths of this kind have fallen in motorsports.

One group of people who haven't been mentioned are the marshalls - there is a much greater level of training than in the 'good old days' and this has saved countless lives.

Sadly accidents still happen, they're part of the nature of motorsport but the victims die doing what they enjoy. I'm aware of the risks when I compete and so are my family.

Do you know his name?

David Purley I think he was called - I'm pretty sure they were team mates.
