Automatic tailgate closing

Featured Replies

I have recently purchased a 2023 Superb Sportline Estate. As a disabled person and full time wheelchair user, I need to store the wheelchair on the passenger seat when travelling alone. On occasions this means I hit the boot button accidentally which results in an open boot lid which I cannot close unless I reassemble the chair get out and move over 2m to use the key fob. Is there help I can get to reprogram the car to close the boot lid from either button or key fob ?

I’m assuming the button you’re hitting is the one in the drivers door, which is where it is in my Karoq.  If you don’t need or intend to use it at all I wonder if you could remove the fuse, unless that would affect the close button in the tailgate? I have no technical knowledge at all so may be talking out of my 🤬 but no doubt there’ll be someone along to put me right and offer proper advice 😏

Welcome to the forum by the way

I didn’t explain myself properly. It’s the button to the left of the gear selector in the centre console. If I remove the fuse unfortunately I have no way of closing the gate as I rely on the key fob when outside. Thanks for your interest.

Being a 2023 plate it cant be set up to close from the button sadly and your only option is the 2 tailgate buttons or the key fob when close to the tailgate.

Your best option is to disable the button by removing the wire from below the button and securing it with heat shrink to prevent it touching anything. This would completely disable the button but also make it usable in the future by repinning it.

If you wanted to do it yourself and had the relevant tools or wanted to instruct a local garage to do it, the wire that needs depinning from the 10 pin plug under the button assembly is the brown with green trace wire - it would just need to be removed and taped/heat shrinked to prevent any contact.

If you wanted to visit me in north london id do it free of charge for you as it would only take 10 minutes max.

Your final option that could be done is a separate button could be added to the center console area that would emulate the tailgate external handle button allowing you to open and close the tailgate from inside the vehicle from a button location of your choosing. The only downside to this is the safety aspect of making sure that the tailgate area is clear of any fingers or other things that may get trapped in it.

Thanks for the information.

I’ve inadvertently opened the tailgate a couple of times whilst in traffic and its bloody annoying you have to get out to close it, so I have enormous sympathy for you, given your need to assemble your wheelchair to do the same.
It is ridiculous that the button can’t activate closing it, but obviously there must be ‘000’s of decapitations, crush and other serious injuries for Tesla / Jaguar / et al owners which has the ability to close it from the inside. So thank gawd we can’t do it… 🙄

It’s surprising it was never a press and hold button to open.

This is really a bodge, but could you find some plastic, place that over the button then tape it.

It’ll be ugly but free to do 😁

Just sighed to myself on this 1st world problem…. 🙄

Meanwhile, in Gaza / Ukraine / Syria today….
