Major Service Records

Have recently bought a used Octavia III Estate, and the vehicle was meant to have had a 'major service' as part of the sale.

 

Service records only show 'Oil Change Service'. The dealer (approved dealer etc) has been unable to explain the difference to date, and being rather unresponsive to emails to date.

 

This naturally leaves me wondering if the major service promised / included in the sale of the car was actually done. For any service on my previous car (Ford Fiesta) and my wife's Skoda Fabia, any service has come with a red/amber/green condition log / record of each element of the car. This so far has not been forth-coming.

 

I've no issue with the car as such (had no reason to, and nothing appears up with it since),  its more a question that a 'free service' included as part of the final negotiations on the car might not have been undertaken as agreed - with a lesser service undertaken instead?

 

Have I got my wires crossed, or am I right to have cause for concern? What would other expect to receive as part of a 'major service' for example?

Possibly, what model / engine, transmission. What exact mileage? When was the previous service before this oil change service and what was it. Is the car on fixed interval or variable servicing?

What engine has the car, what gearbox, what miles has it done, what servicing history is there?

 

 

You need to know what a MAJOR SERVICE means.

  It was not and still is not much.

 

2020 the Term changed to Oil & Inspection Services & Extended Scope.

Just there in my files.    Because it is like everyday the same old same old. 

If someone else bothers to post / link them for the people asking the same questions that seem to suit the same answers i need not bother.

I also own a 1.5tsi wagon dsg, personally if you were unsure whether they'd changed the plugs (if your car is petrol), I'd change them yourself or have someone change them for you. Trust went a long time ago with me & main dealers. Think last time I priced some up they were £15 each for my engine.

Some of the things listed in a major service and extended scope service I always had done at every service.

I’ve changed mine twice myself. As you say £15 per plug for the 1.5 TSI and it took half an hour.  Never, ever changed the brake fluid, even on my of 250k mile 1.6 TDI. Or coolant.

@gm73   Is that some sort of good thing that your brake fluid has never had and H2o in it, or you were not aware of it and never any brake fade or overheating?

Maybe because of where you use your car, park and drive. 

 

People might never change oil and filters or automatic gearbox oil and never have a problem.  It is not advised though is it?

 

Coolant never checked for strength is not unusual and maybe never an issue, unless it has maybe been topped up lots with just H2o and then there is very cold conditions.

Or there is no longer enough rust inhibitor left in the engine.

 

Servicing is advice is general stuff for many different people in many different climates and locations. 

Some people know that Servicing and maintenance saves money in the long run.  Like Fleet Operators, Taxi Firms etc.

No. It was almost at the top of the cross hatching. I was told they like oil at the top so that’s why they advised 75%. I just let it go as he knew I wouldn’t buy any oil as there was half a gallon in the boot.

I have a tool that measures water content in the brake fluid. So that gets checked once a week.

I've also changed the rear brake pads & discs myself, none Skoda parts, saved myself a fortune. Not changed a front set yet on mine, but they do look a lot easier.

I’ve done the fronts on mine twice. It’s one of the easiest jobs on a car I’ve ever done. Used Brembo parts. Cost me about £70 in total. 
 

I’ve never done the rears. Did you just use a standard caliper rewind tool???

I had a caliper rewind kit, had it for ages & bought it off ebay, used it on loads of cars. I also have the manual handbrake. I also had to take the caliper retaining bracket bolts off using (m14), bits, that was the hardest part of the job, due to limited access working off my drive & they're very tight. Otherwise there was no way of sliding my discs out from the caliper retaining bracket. The fronts looked easy within comparison. I just used british made discs & pads from my local motor factors, cost me £60. can't be any worse than the vag stuff previously fitted. You might get lucky, as on most you can slide the discs out from the caliper bracket past the rear hubs, couldn't with mine, as the disc where it fits over the hub was too deep. Hopefully I won't ahve to change the rears again, as they'd already covered 62k from new, fronts were changed last year at around 50k. I've only owned this car for around 3 months now.
