Fabia 2 RNS315 retrofit. Flashing Backlight

Featured Replies

Evening guys and girls. New to the forum but not new to the Skoda life.

Mainly had Octavia estates but about a year ago grabbed myself a 2010 Fabia TDI initially so I could do tip runs but it’s such a great little car that I’ve started doing a few bits to it.

I thought it would be nice to upgrade the stereo to something with a screen, for aesthetics more than anything but also to be able to use the Bluetooth functionality.

everything went smoothly, mic installed, DAB aerial installed, gps antenna installed, stereo installed and all worked brilliantly however I was experiencing the dreaded battery drain.

After investigation, I thought I could get away with a canbus emulator, however upon install it would make the climate control backlighting flash and the stereo backlighting flash.

can anyone make any suggestions as to what can be done or an alternative route to take? I have tried to attach a video of the flashing for your viewing pleasure but it’s too big unfortunately.

any help is greatly appreciated

I don't think this is what you mean by "alternatives" but I just bought one of the highest rated Android Auto/Apple Carplay screen on Amazon.

The only thing with mine is that calls are awful through AUX, to the extent they're pointless.

I also wish I'd gone for one with screen mirroring, so my wife could drive when there's a game I want to watch on 😂

A bit of 3M and wire hiding - you can only do this to an extent if you go down the AUX route but FM transmitter would be invisible - and it pretty much looks built in.

I was going to go for a built in screen but I thought it would be too low for sat nav etc. and dangerous to look at.

I suspect it can be hard wired but I don't want to cut off the cigarette lighter just in case, as I can't find a replacement anywhere and they say they don't sell them separately.

be aware that it is illegal to drive with the screen visible to the driver whether the driver is watching or not.

Blimey, the police got here quick! Were you called or just waiting under the bridge?

I'll stick to my phone.

I was offering the guy advice. No point in his missus getting a ticket when it could be avoided.
