Skoda superb burning oil.

Featured Replies

Has anyone experienced excessive oil consumption with their 2016 Skoda Superb 2.0 TDI? I’ve noticed that my car has been burning through oil quicker than expected. What could be the potential causes, and are there any recommended solutions or checks that I should consider?” I have a 2.0 TDI 2016 that's done 138,000 miles. I found that I'm topping up a litre every 400 miles. I have noticed my car idles at 1000 rpm and fan stays on after car is switched off for around 5 minutes. Also occasionally on longer drives my dpf light comes on but when switched off it goes off. I don't know if this might be something connected to the oil burning. I have had the car checked for any external leaks and had none apart from rocker cover gasket being changed I am still experiencing oil loss. Please anyone shed some light on this matter. I also experienced another problem as I was driving on the motorway my glow plug light started flashing car went into limp mode so I pulled over and switched off engine and back on it seemed to resolve the problem until recently I noticed the car losing power after 3000rpm and if I give it a boot all of a sudden the car flies into total limp mode and glow plugs light starts to flash again please can someone also shed some light on this sorry for the bombardment of questions. thank you in advance for any answers.

Welcome to Briskoda.

Sounds like it could be a DPF problem. In any event, the first thing I suggest you do, is get the car to a good independent VAG specialist and scanned for fault codes, as this will definitely point to the cause of the increasing number of issues you’re experiencing.

Thank you for your reply, I have scanned for codes but no codes seem to be popping up. I even took it to mechanic and he told me to sell the car as it's a oil burner and it could be piston ring problem.

What scanner did you use? I'd be amazed given the glow lamp light came on, the DPF lamp comes on and going into limp too, that there are no codes stored hence you should get a VAG specialist to scan it.

Ok I shall get a bag specialist to scan and hopefully I gave some luck with that thank you again

Welcome.

How long has it been like this? Clearly a DPF issue and as well as the DPF and/or sensors being in trouble your oil will be a terrible way as with endless aborted regens(100rpm/ fans etc...) diesel will be running down the bores (used for active regens) and if like this long term it's not a good lubricant so could ultimately cause problems with things like bores & turbo.

This is potentially serious so get it to a VAG specialist asap.  I'd suggest not driving much until diagnosed properly.

I bought the car like this the garage I bought it from didn't mention anything about the oil burning issue, ever since I had it nearly 1 year I am topping up oil. So you think it's all related to the dpf ?

I don't know but your current big issue is probably DPF - might have been an ongoing issue.

As I originally wrote yes, it sounds like a DPF issue, BUT it’s a waste of everyone’s time just speculating. Get it scanned ASAP.

What area of the country are you?

Dis you ever get to bottom of this I have same issue with my octavia so downloaded the vag dpf app and got a compatible dongle and shows dpf regenerating almost constantly

Also keen to hear of how you get on when you get a chance. I have had a very similar issue (along with what looks like a turbo problem...for my sins 🙄)

Been told dpf is nearing end of its life so either replace or gut it and code it out 🫣

Or stay legal and replace the DPF if that really is the issue.

I said replace or gut....
