1.2 TSI swap for 1.4 TSI + Up platting?

Featured Replies

Hi, haven’t got a yeti yet but was looking and wanted a 1.4 TSI but didn’t want the 4wd system and the leaky sunroof of the L&K models so have been looking at the 1.2 TSI SEL Drive. Don’t want a diesel as do short journeys more often then long ones and less problems with the TSI’s.

Any way, wanted to see if anyone had swapped a 1.4 TSI into a 1.2 TSI Yeti.

Also wanted to ask if someone had done the swap that they’d then up plated there FWD car so it could tow 1500 kg like the FWD 2 litre 110 diesel as both engines have same torque.

I know diesels are better for towing but just thought I’d ask the complete random questions to see if anyone had that same crazy thought on there mind.

It’s worth an ask at least.

Sounds like you've got mixed priorities to be honest. The towing question answers itself and you might as well just remap a 1.2TSI otherwise to avoid the roof but get identical performance to a std 1.4.

The 1.2 is nice enough especially with DSG which is snappy and makes good use of the torque. I thought my other half would have one this time, but she preferred another loaded diesel (minus sunroof!)

If you are prepared top pay the sort of money to swap out a 1.2 for a 1.4, I would be looking for an alternative car!!

You are not going to get it Up Plated even if you find people advertising that they can.

As to the 1.4 TSI engine, ECU etc, is that coming from some crashed vehicle?

A 150 ps one?

As far as I can tell the towing capacity of the 1.4 is the same as the 1.2, 1200kg, so a futile exercise!

The later 1.4TSi 150PS 4x4 was rated at 1800kg.  But in the UK it only came in L&K trim and more importantly for me it was manual only.

I would have bought one if they had done it in DSG.

But I was forced down the diesel route as I needed auto and to tow 1500kg.

Eventually I was struggling to manage the DPF on the diesel so after 4 Yeti's I bought a 1.5TSi DSG Karoq

In the owners manual it says 1200 kg for 12% grades and 1500 kg for 8% grades for the 1.2 TSI.

Only thing that matters legally is what is on the weight plate on the car.
