Skoda vrs 2006 tfsi blue smoke from exhaust

Featured Replies

Hi all my vrs is making blue smoke and smells like burnt oil, oil does go down a lot more then usual min from full is 3 4 weeks just wanted to see what it could be either valve stem seals turbo or rings

it doesn’t do it all the time and there is a pcv valve delete manifold cap from pcv

coukd this be an issue ?

Yes. You need to do proper diagnostics like dry and wet compression test (for piston rings) to find out which.

How can I do this what do I need as I have a variety of tools just haven’t done wet dry testing ?

It’s weird as yesterday drive it no smoke at all and it’s been hot as hell out here the only thing I have come up is p2293 code fuel system issue… I have change the hpfp cam follower lobe tank pump fuel lines and sensor including fuel filter and still have this code could that cause blue smoke at times or stop it ?

Unless familiar with the process, probably best left to a mechanic.

Battery needs to be in reasonable state of charge to ensure sufficient cranking speed.

Remove spark plugs, attach cylinder compression test meter, crank engine over to establish engine compression, note reading and repeat for each cylinder. This gives you the dry compression readings.

Repeat the process, after injecting a small quantity of lube oil into each cylinder before compression test.

Resultant figures should be within specification, each cylinder reading should be reasonably similar (IIRC, within approx. 10% low to high) - marked differences between 'dry' and 'wet' figures indicates issue with piston rings.
