Skoda fabia mk4 first year service

Featured Replies

Hello

Have had my 2023 fabia almost 12 months , car has service plan so have just booked in first service , mileage is approx 8k miles

Service department phoned saying that they recommend flushing the engine out before service extra cost approx. £40

Can't see why this is necessary ? never flushed oil out before on a modern car .... just keep it serviced

Needed or not  ?

Cheers Steve

Can you say "upselling"?

Definitely felt like upselling , can't see why its needed on a 12 month service interval on a new car?

Not needed.

I did an oil flush on an old car many years ago but have never had one done on a modern car. As long as the oil is replaced at the recommended intervals there is absolutely no need.

When the TT was in for a service once I was offered one of those engine cleans. Given that it was low mileage, it was always serviced by them and ran fine I said I hope you are joking! They really try it on sometimes.

Hi,My car was serviced at 12 months and less than 4000 miles and engine flush was never mentioned. Also the cost was as i cosider high for only an oil and filter(cost £200.00)My snd year service was done at an independent garage, service recorded on skoda website and done for £85.00 less than skoda with full guarantee.Cheers Andy

@steveeeg   How much are they charging for this Service & are they saying it is an Oil & Inspection Service?

Fair enough if you had the Variable / Flexible Servicing changed to the Fixed regime with your lack of annual miles.

It is still only an Oil & Filter change at Year one on a Fixed Service, with a look see unless you want to pay for more being done.

They do not usually tell you that though.

@Ootohere

Hello

Its part of the service plan I bought when I got the car , so don't know cost as its included in service plan

I think it would just be a oil and inspection service @ 1 year

thanks for the info

Cheers Steve

If part of a Service Plan be sure it is an Oil & Inspection Service then.  All the ticks.

& the Road Test, Body Inspection for the Paint & Corrosion Warranty logged as done.

?

Is Next years just the Same same and Including the Pollen Filter replaced?

Tell them to take a flying feck.

Engine flush is pointless, going to be about as useful as getting the air in the tyres changed to nice fresh air.

Actually if you want bit of fun, when you drop the car off, ask the the tyre pressures to be set halfway between normal and eco.  They might actually check the tyres if you do.

Is this a Skoda main dealership garage?  I suspect it is.  My experience over the years is that main dealership garages are sharks and are eager to extract as much money from you that they can get away with.

I use an independent garage for my Skoda. They service any make of car but they just happen to specialise in VW/Audi so as my Fabia's engine is identical to a VW Polo, then I'm more than happy for them to do my services.

They are very honest and only do what is required.  Would suggest you find a similar garage if you can.

As an example of main dealership sharp practices, I once had a Fiesta that had an issue with the nearside rear door. Took it to a Ford main dealer. They quoted me £700 to fix the problem. Naturally refused their offer and took it to a local repair garage. The guy there fixed the problem in less than 30 seconds - it was a door seal issue. Furthermore, he didn't even charge me !!!
