LED Headlights and other questions

Featured Replies

Hello everybody!

Well I would like to ask few questions. But first I want to let you know about my car. It is Scoda Octavia 2017 (2018 model) 1.4TSi Sedan

LED Headlights:

My car was born with halogen lights is it worth the effort and money to upgrade to full LED headunit ? Is it even possible ?

Firmware update:

I see i can update my firmware but i can't seem to find change log on original skoda website ? My unit is without NAV and as i read here it is possible to activate sign recognition mode but i want to avoid errors (because I don't have NAV system)

Side mirrors:

My side mirros are without motor to automaticaly fold. Is it possible to upgrade with motor and programme it to fold mirros when i lock my car ?

ACC:

Is it also possible to get ACC to my skoda? I know it might sound rediculous because it is manual transmission, but worh a shot to ask

Thank you for your help!

Best wishes,

Modzo

Led headlights can be fitted but you also need the level control system and headlight washers. This may also require a new bcm or can gateway making it very expensive.

Skoda don't provide a changelog. The list of fixes tends to be very vague and helpful. TSR needs nav to work properly...

Yes, you can replace the mirrors with motorised versions. You might need new door controllers which support them.

ACC is also possible assuming your ABS module supports it.

All the above retrofits could be quite expensive and complex so you might want to consider swapping your car if they are important to you...

LED headlight unit could be nice but as I can understand it is gonna be really expensive.

Navigation unit you think is it worth the money to upgrade it so I could have TSR ?

ACC well it is not needed but could be nice to have.

And folding mirrors could be nice touch and least expensive above all.

I got this octavia like 2 weeks ago and it will be expensive to change to other model.

I wouldn't bother with the nav upgrade for tsr... Just use Waze via android auto or carplay. That'll give more accurate results although it'll only be shown on the radio screen.

Thanks for the advice! Well at least gonna try to do software update on it soon just need to find sd card 😅

I don't know about Danish law, but UK law would require the addition of headlight self-levelling and headlight washers to make LED headlights legal.

Need to check the law precisely but there shouldn't be a problem, but yeah than i need to find module for auto leveling and other programming stuff.. i'm completely new at this and learning some things

You should check out if it is legal to retrofit street legal LED bulbs in Denmark, as certain EU countries now permit the fitting of Street Legal LED H7 bulbs made by either Philips or Osram

It depends if you want brighter headlights or just an LED look.

For example, the H7 versions are rated at 1550lm which is the same as a halogen equivalent.

I was thinking about whole unit. But there is to much work and to expensive.

I heard that some people have changed from halogen lamp to LED, but the problem is I don't know what kind og LED they used (not answering messages)

Cheers!

Most folk seem to use any cheap Chinese LEDs. I would not recommend it...

If your car is on the Phillips compatibility list and it's legal in Denmark, that would be the most obvious route to LED headlights.

Here is some few more things i would like to research and gonna need your help as well.

Hill Hold Assist. I'm not sure but is it even available on my model with manual transmission? Been looking on forum can't find much help.

Lane Assist. Do i need to do some coding or do I need some more stuff to retrofit them?

Digital cockpit. Is ir possible to get it without a lot of hassel ?

Sorry for so many questions.

At least in the UK, all 2017 models had hill hold as standard, including manuals. It's probably already working but only lasts a couple of seconds.

Lane assist will depend on the front facing camera you have. Given you don't have TSR or LA, you will likely need a new camera and windscreen as the mount is different.

Digital cockpit is easy on a MY18 car, it might be harder on a MY17 depending on various firmware versions. It's also incredibly expensive to buy a cluster. You'll also need a dealer to sort the immobiliser and component protection during the install.

Here are four cameras i guess ? Or maybe just sensors ? And one on the self mirror as well. One on the mirror maybe is for auto high beams ? Camera is not sure what is ir for and than two small dots maybe for rain sensor ?

The sensors touching the glass are light and rain (auto-headlights and auto-wipers).

High beam assist uses the obvious camera looking thing built in to the lower part of the mirror mount.

Unfortunately, it does not support TSR or lane assist.

Thanks for the quick reply! Well with a hill assist gonna need to test it better than, before putting to vcds

Do you know what that sensor on the mirror does than ?

So here are some updates:

1. Managed to do that fog lights turn on while on position light. Needed to use obdelevn forums to find right coding.

2. Changed mirror turn signals to better ones that will be able to see from all angles

3. Some other programming stuff internally like, mirror dip and other things.

Now here is the things i want to still add/change:

1. Wanna add front park assist as well (price is kind a okay)

2. Wanna add foldable mirros and blind spot detection.

3. Want to upgrade my MIB2 unit to 480T

Most importantly i want to ask if people are willing to guid me and answer let me know what i need to get precise for folding mirros and blind spot detection and how could i upgrade my MIB2 to 480T because i tried with sd card and i'm getting metadata error.
Front park assist i will be getting via skoda workshop.

Why i'm doing this ? Because i think it is fun to sit and play with that kind of stuff and of course I could have bought better equipt octavia but where is the fun than ?

Thanks a lot for the input and help everyone, so far i learned a lot in this journey and i hope i will learn even more!
