Rs seats very unomfortable. help!

Featured Replies

Hi. I have upgraded from mk4 standard octavia to rs recently. Problem is i am getting very bad sciatica every time I get out of it.. I don't get it in any other car and I never had any back pain with standard octavia..

I have tried all types of cushions and wedges  and driving posions the seat can go into but still not helping alot.

I only get it every time I drive this car.

Can you upgrade to electric version with more options like tilt and its abit softer ect? Or is it too late now as it's not done in factory?

I would have thought that if it has been built then it's too late, without very deep pockets if at all at a later date.

I think that there's a lumbar adjuster on the seat. Not never looked for it.

I think if it were me, I'd swap the seat for one you know you'll feel comfortable in - the standard Octavia seat you refer to should be a relatively straightforward swap, and available from a scrapper.  VW Golf ones may possibly fit too?  Then, when you come to move it on, you'll have a pretty pristine driver's seat to go back in it.

You have my empathy though.  I had the same, donkey's years ago, with a Vauxhall Cavalier.  And like you, it was the only car it ever happened in.  Everything was fine on the 20 minute test drive, but after I got the car I found chronic back pain arriving at the 30 minute mark of every drive.  I very nearly got a Recaro interior from a scrapyard, but when I went to get it, it had been vandalised with a knife.  Nothing I tried worked and I got so disillusioned in the end that I moved the car on.

Good luck with getting more comfortable.

I should've pointed out that it depends on whether you have the heated seats & electric seats.

Ironically we’ve had a Karoq Sportline for around 15 months and the drivers seat is beginning to take its toll on my back after about an hour. Tried adjusting every which way (although it has limits on how much) and it’s at the point where I’m looking at moving on to something else. It’d be a shame but can’t continue driving a car that’s making my back ache. Came out of a Freelander and those seats were great, but sadly deemed non-ULEZ compliant

My Kamiq seat was a problem for my back. Tried various positions, lumbar adjuster etc. The thing that fixed it was a piece of sponge about 6 to 8 inches high right at the bottom of the backrest, effectively pushing my bum forward a couple of inches. Also seat back needs to be pretty upright and lumbar support at minimum.

Hard to understand what Skoda have done to the seats as I never had a problem in my old Octavia.

I'm going to be one to buck the trend and say I think the seats in the mk4 vRS are most likely the comfiest I've had in a Skoda. I came from a Mk2 Superb with full electric leather seats. I bought the vRS from the dealership in Eastbourne and drove it back to Sheffield without any pain or discomfort whereas in the Superb I was aching after a couple of hours in the past. The wife has a 2019 Fabia and again I ache after a couple of hours in those seats. Also had a couple of mk1 Fabia vRSs and can't remember them being as comfy either.

I find them very comfy and I have a "fuller figure" and I often use the heated seat function for my back, but when I do longer distances as I will next week they're boon, trouble is sometimes I find them a bit too comfortable and can make me a bit sleepy, so I drive with the window just open for fresh air.

Gone back to JLR and bought a used RR Velar P300 HSE R-Dynamic. Had a Freelander prior to the Karoq and it had decent comfy seats, driving position and gave us many happy miles so hoping this will do the same.

Like standing up against the back of seat? I am willing to try anything. I jave tried wedge cushion and flat cushion but no joy?

If I came across electric seats out of rs in scrapyard would they work?  or would it have to have been wired from factory?

No matter what position I have it in it aggravates me after 20/30mins so I have to make something work😩

Yes, standing up behind your bum. Just pushes you forward a bit in the seat. It's the width of the seat, about 8 inches high and 3 inches thick. It was sponge that came out of a dining chair seat when we reupholstered them and had new sponge.

Everything I tried that was bigger made it worse and the lumbar adjustment doesn't seem to go in far enough even on it's minimum setting.
