1.6tdi cr water pump and belt - June 2024 prices

Featured Replies

Just had my water pump go on a 74K Octavia mk3 my2015

Now getting costs to have done.

so in my head this is tops £600.

Independent first quote £650 and ŠKODA themselves with some 10% off promotion they are doing £1050.

i am leaning to to Marshall’s ŠKODA but am genuinely surprised based on looking at older posts this is the price.

What are peoples thoughts?

£1050 is ridiculous.  Probably prices at stealers have gone up due to skoda nipping their cambelt cashcow in the bud by extending the replacement interval.  I'd have said £650 is about right if they're a VAG specialist.  I paid £600 at my local specialist a couple of years ago

Make sure you go with genuine OEM parts; water pump design has been revised and hopefully you shouldn't experience any further issues. Stick with the VAG specialist and make sure they quote for genuine parts.

Sounds a bit pricey I just do it myself and save £400-£800 😁

Yes i do a lot on my cars but this job on a car I can’t afford to get wrong seems a bit risky.

I understand. It's perfectly doable as a DIY job but there's always the peace of mind getting it done at a dealer or specialist.

My friend just replaced pump/belt/rollers/front seal in local garage. Known for a long time and reliable mechanic done this.

125 EUR for job.
Mk3 Octy 1.6TDI.

£650 seems reasonable based on what I have paid for the last 2 of mine.

The first time it was done the system wasn't burped correctly so it took a couple of weeks to stabilise the coolant level in the expansion tank. 2nd time with different Indy it was faultless.

Interestingly it is in today at the Indy. The pump is electric I was surprised to hear. Anyone know when that change was. Car is late MY2014.

There are multiple pumps in the cooling system, one mechanical on the engine and other electric for e.g. charge cooler.

So would you say its the Electric one that causes issues generally?

A little tip is if you buy your parts from TPS they usually do a rebate for the old water pump so you get money back.
