Would 6.5J x 16 ET46 Octavia wheel fit 2020 Karoq

Featured Replies

Good Morning Chaps

Am sick of harsh ride on the 19" craters & 40 profile tyres.

Intending to fit 215 x 60 x 16" tyres.

Would appreciate if someone could tell if this will work OK....

     Thanks Ian 😊

Welcome.

@Carlston might be along to help with the scores on the doors.

Until then maybe have a look at the many threads on the subject just for Karoq,s and changing from 19" rims on this forum.

Maybe? Which trim and engine do you have, because the brake disc size varies?

Skoda sells 6Jx16" ET45 alloy wheels for the Karoq, in styles called Nanuq and Castor, so that wheel size is guaranteed to fit. You are proposing slightly wider rims, 6.5J, but as Skoda fits the Karoq with rims up to 8J, I guess that small increase in width will not be a problem.

ETRTO-approved rim widths for your proposed 215/60 x16 tyres range from 6.0 through 6.5 to 7.0, so the tyres are suitable for the rims.

As for those tyres, 215/60 x 16 compared to your current 225/40 x19, you may already have worked out that the difference in rolling circumference is negligible, a matter of 2 revs per km.

However, if you were to fit one of the latest-generation all-season tyres to your 19-inch wheels, you might be well pleased with the improvement in ride, as I was.  (Particuarly if you are getting rid of the Turanza T005 summer tyres, which are terrible.)  I and others have discussed it on other threads, as Ootohere says.

Fair enough. People have different priorities.  For me, 215 width leaves the car under-tyred and lacking in lateral grip, while 60-profile sidewalls degrade the steering response, which is not the greatest anyway.  Your choice is reasonable, but it is not without compromise.

Yorkshire roads really are little better than cart tracks in many places.... The extra sidewall should offer a bit more comfort.

If I want to get a move on ...

I've a few motorcycles ....

Calm down Carlos Fandango! ;) Not everyone drives like that.

Very true. Especially not in a Honda Jazz.

So it's OK for you to patronise me ('Calm down, Carlos Fandango'), but you don't like getting it back. Now we know.

Back to the original question...

6.5Jx16 ET46 is only 0.5" wider than standard and only has 3mm more offset than standard. You should be fine using that rim specification with the standard 215/60R16 tyre size.

All Karoq models can use 16" rims because none of the brakes used on these cars are big enough to necessitate 17" rims, ie. the Karoq doesn't use bigger front brakes than 312x25mm.

Karoq front wheel drive wheels (Skoda approved, but check the car's Certificate of Conformity to be sure)

215/60R16 6Jx16 ET43 5/112 57.1

215/55R17 7Jx17 ET45 5/112 57.1

215/50R18 7Jx18 ET45 5/112 57.1

225/40R19 8Jx19 ET45 5/112 57.1

235/40R19 8Jx19 ET45 5/112 57.1

Karoq 4x4 wheels (Skoda approved, but check the car's Certificate of Conformity to be sure)

225/60R16 6Jx16 ET43 5/112 57.1

225/55R17 7Jx17 ET45 5/112 57.1

225/50R18 7Jx18 ET45 5/112 57.1

225/45R19 8Jx19 ET45 5/112 57.1

245/40R19 8Jx19 Et45 5/112 57.1

Low profile wheel balancing weights may be required on front 16" alloy rims.

You may well be right...

Did a trial fit this afternoon.

Not much of a gap tween extremity of caliper & inner rim

In the Karoq owner's manual, 215/60R16 6Jx16 ET43 is the only size recommended by Skoda for the fitment of snow chains.

If fitting 16" wheels to a Karoq was a problem, that owner wouldn't be able to drive their car in the snow...clearly, that's not the case.

My son used the not quite correct 7x16 et 45 winter wheels with 215x60 tyres that I had for my Yeti on his Karoq when he had it, with no problems.

There was no problem fitting my 215/60R16 6Jx16 ET43 wheels at all. As my fitter was using two sizes of balancing weights, he pointed out that the lower profile weights should be used in my case.

Just a heads up.  🙂

Unless you are balancing the wheels yourself, what wheel weights to use is down to the tyre fitter. I don't think a tyre fitter would be too pleased if you start telling him how to do his job.

My stick on wheel weights have a height of 4mm, and that includes the thickness of the adhesive pad. When using stick-on wheel weights, it's always best to use low profile simply because they are less likely to fall off...regardless of the clearance between the rim and the brake caliper.

With the 7Jx16 ET45 rims, I would use slightly oversize 235/60R16 tyres on the Karoq (two or four wheel drive) because as well as being cheaper than the standard Karoq tyre sizes, they are very comfortable and protect the rims very well from kerbing and pothole damage and there's a nice selection of tyres available and with a speed rating and load index that isn't over-specified for the Karoq...some examples below.

Outside diameter of tyre

225/45R19 685.1mm (Karoq 4x4 tyre size)

235/60R16 688.4mm (0.5% bigger outside diameter compared to 225/45R19)

I can't find any photos of a Karoq with oversize 235/60R16 tyres, but here's a photo of a Yeti with oversize 235/55R17. Top photo shows the original 225/50R17 tyre size, and the bottom photo shows the oversize 235/55R17. 235/60R16 has a similar outside diameter to 235/55R17, but 235/60R16 has 11.75mm (almost 0.5") more sidewall height...so will look even more chunky.

Actually, on the following two balancing sessions I did remind my tyre fitter of that detail and he didn't seem to mind.
He is a nice person.

Just like to thank everyone for their comments.

   Wheels away for powder coating.

Will post some pics of car with new wheels tyres on in 10 days or so.

For those interested.

Had the four 16" Octavia wheels with Falken 215.60.16 tyres fitted today.

Total excercise cost me £740.

Very happy with outcome....

Better ride & much less chance of kerbing the alloys.

Plenty clearance between front caliper & inside of wheel.

Replacement tyres in future at 100 quid rather than 200.
