My dash warnings

Featured Replies

Some warning lights have started appearing -on my mk3 fabia 1.4 diesel dash, specifically the tyre pressure warning, ABS, Park assist(rear ) . Also the start-stop system no longer functions either. I’m assuming it is a central malfunction such as some kind of junction box. Any ideas on how to diarise, replace with new or second hand ? Thanks

I have flagged your post / question so that a mod can move it to the Fabia Mk3 section.

Check the state of charge of your battery, check the main battery and main earth connections are are tight and clean.

Ok thanks I will do so.and feed back, I hope it’s as simple as that, iwasworried it could be some kind computer / reader issue

It may be a computer issue, caused by something else or by the battery having got too low.  When you get to the start/stop not activating when it normally should that often is the first sign that the battery is low.  At that stage just driving the car may be enough to fully recover it (to whatever level is possible) by the time you're into warning lights and messages the battery could be so low it needs the use of an appropriate battery charger maintainer to recharge the battery as much as is possible.  When there is any difficulty getting the engine started then the battery probably will never be fully recharged.

If a connection is loose or dirty then tightening and cleaning with make all the difference but the battery will still probably need the use of an appropriate battery charger maintainer to recharge it.

If it's none of the above then a scan tool is needed to see if it might be something like a faulty sensor, or the wiring or connection(s) to or from it.

Only recently someone put they used a scan tool and got error messages but the actual cause was a dirty battery connection, he had gone about checks a*se-about-face sexy scan tool before basic checks.

Good luck.

Was it coded to the car after it was fitted.

Was this a wheel speed sensor?

What fault codes do do you still have and have the warning codes been checked /noted and cleared?

Thanks. AG Falco

Was their scan tool fully up to date for your model and year as a previous thread here had "000271 - Permanent Unknown fault code" which changed to lots more info once the scan tool program was updated.

I would check elsewhere with an appropriate VW scan tool to see what codes come up (and to confirm battery and sensors 'coding' is correct.  My wife's 2015 MK3 doesn't have separate individuals tyre pressure sensor as part of the tyre values, it is all off the wheel sensor.

After the battery was fitted did you try starting the engine, then turn on your headlights and air-con and blower to 4 then turn the steering wheel to full lock in each direction and then go for a ride to see if this would clear warning lights, messages (and codes)?

Some Briskoda members with VW appropriate scan tools can offer help for beer tokens, few others are professional service so will want more than beer tokens, see attached link to see if you can find anyone near you that can help. - https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/262215-list-of-vcds-owners-previously-known-as-vag-com-vcp-owners/#comment-3091029

And never assume anything as that can be a very costly and time consuming way of diagnosis always check, double check, cross-reference only make assumptions if you must  after full and complete checks.  Good luck.

Have a look at the appropriate videos of how this chap does diagnosis and then checks and cross-references the results of how it should be done. - https://www.youtube.com/@mrautoservices7354/videos

AGFalco …….. I believe it’s the right battery for the car (I’ll look at the make and model in the morning and add this to the thread) The battery was supplied and fitted by Kwickfit in August this year, along with a drivers side ABS wheel sensor , so I assume they know what they are doing but I’m now questioning this thought . I arrived at the workshop with the following warning lights on, tire pressure, ABS light, the skiddy car looking light. ALSO, No in traffic stop start function and No reverse parking sensors working (beeping) so after the considerable cost of the battery and the sensor , they gave I it back after the test drive and told me there is another 2 faults (000271 and 000181) not linked to ever the battery or new wheel sensor, that are causing the issues I describe above , I was told it’s a main control unit problem (?) …….. so as I say spent a considerable amount and it’s the same as the day I took it to them

nta16……. I would assume that the garage (Kwickfit) had all the right tools and up to date diagnostics programs? Although I’m loosing confidence  in them as they were  bit sketchy with their answers to my questions, ,,,,I would be happy to pay (as you nation) beer tokens or even champagne tokens to anyone in Essex /kent /Herts that can solve, stop and rectify this this problem for me once and for all….

. here’s hoping……..

Others would.

Thanks AG Falco

I would only take real ale tokens but I no longer have access to my neighbour's scan tool (which I almost always had to update and recharge the battery) otherwise I'd gladly do scan reports, error codes deletes and battery 'coding' where possible (he only needed it for 1996 and 2005 vehicles but I and other neighbours benefitted from it with newer cars) but the selfish devil moved away and took it with (along with all his garage tools including the 4 or 5 foot breaker bar.

For the battery a good clear (landscape) photo of the battery, from above it, might give enough detail to it, or perhaps make and model number of it from the KwikFit bill.

I once whilst commuting had to take a car in to have some brake work done with priority at a KwikFit branch, by the time I got to my home town I took the car straight to a local branch to complain about the (balls-up) work done earlier and have it corrected.  At the branch that done wrong, big burley, obviously untrained/undertrained, bloke doing the work at home branch quite by good luck a small young lady that done a great job, if it was possible I would always want to go to an all-female garage, as a total generalisation they have a much, much, better attitude to customers and work than many/most men that work in the motor trade.

Further to the discussion about the dash warning lights it was suggested I post a picture of the battery that I had fitted here,,,,, please see attached IMG_3135.thumb.jpeg.54bb19428e7161af5d79946df6c457f4.jpeg

I’m loosing confidence in Halfords to be honest their customer care service over the phone is good but once at the branch it leaves me doubting, after the  ,,, telephone conversations today with them ,,,,,, the saga continues !

Thanks, it was me that asked.

So NAPA AFB096N (096 type, Start Stop, EFB, 5 Year Guarantee) 650 CCA (cold cranking amps) (to EN standard) and 70Ah.

And IF required, for visual checks out of guarantee you can peel back the shiny sticky labels and get at the screw-in cell plugs to look at the 'water' (electrolyte) levels and conditions of plates in the battery's six cells.

If Kwikfit 'coded' that battery correctly in August it should be fine and assuming the correct wheel sensor was fitted correctly and if required(?) 'coded' correctly then that also should be fine.

If you want to, nothing to loose, you could disconnect the battery monitoring connector off the negative battery terminal clamp bit so see if that makes any odds (I doubt it but conformation of battery perhaps) you can soon reconnect it if you want.  Or after the car has been sitting parked up for as many hours as possible put a multimeter directly on the battery terminal posts and tell us the voltage reading it gives.  Still best to get a good scan report or better still diagnosis using scan tool, other diagnostic tools including human senses and knowledge, training, experience (and correct attitude to job and people, often sadly missing with paid professionals).

FYI battery monitoring connector (if you want photos of how to disconnect just ask and I'll se if I can find them from previous thread(s)).

That’s really helpful information thanks, so the next stage is a different branch of Kwickfit in. The morning   (don’t  shoot me just yet) are running a diagnostic check and a battery check . I have been informed by customer service that the branch had an up to date scan tool program for my car. If this doesn’t solve the issue then I’ll b3 on here begging for someone with the right equipment to help me out………..I’ll update as things progress,,,, thank you fir your support Craig

So an update to the continuing dash lights saga, this morning I was at another branch of kwikfit, this was to cross reference the fitting branches diagnosed findings, Todays results show the following ……….ne rear right wheel sensor was replaced in august with a new one by KF ….I’ve been advised to go back to the fitting branch and arrange for the area ”Master Tech” ( will he wear a mask and cape?) to come and diagnose the issue. I’m now getting irritated and thinking of going elsewhere , but was quoted £84 plus vat per hour for fault diagnostics then the cost of any repair by an independent  ……..

Yes it is …… but this is visit number 4 (on Monday) and  still not sorted

If it was me I'd take the advice and go back and ask for the "Area  Master Tech" as the fitting branch didn't complete the diagnosis or job - unless they only undertook to fit the part(s) and not sort the source or related issue and that was the contract with you.

This of course supposes that TopDon's Artidiag 900 lite has it's program up to date and it's not with glitches, errors and omissions which given everything else I'd give it the benefit of accepting it's findings on this, it could be used to look further but obviously the second branch would prefer the "Area Master Tech" takes this on.

Often there's a god chance, if you wanted, given the information you might do just as good job of tracking the issue down as you don't have the time and policy restraints put on some employees and self-employed professionals plus you care more about getting a final resolve to the issue.  It might, or might not, turn out to involve something a bit more complicated than basics checks and bit of work but at least you'd have covered the basics some pros can't be bothered with.

Good luck, let us know how you get on.

ETA: "Area Master Tech" can sometimes have more freedom or elasticity of time and policy constraints (not always) I've no idea with KwikFit but if off-site the offer of things like a mug of tea/coffee, warmth and ease of working or rest environments, availability of toilet and washing facilities and a friendly customer can often help and sometimes with extras, if only information.  On-site you can only be friendly and perhaps offer to get/buy a tea/coffee when convenient to them.  If such a thing is allowed to exist with KwikFit, I'd be even happier if the "Area Master Tech" was a woman.

The saga continues ,,,, the area master tech looked at it yesterday (15min) and declared that his equipment can’t find a fault , when challenged and shown the data readouts from another kwickfit branch he drove if as fast as he arrived , this mows leaves me  totally discussed with kwickfit

3 hours ago, CRE59 said:

his equipment can’t find a fault

What equipment and what was he looking at, a scan tool mat not throw up an error code when something is obviously wrong to an average car driver user, you need to look look at live data and get other diagnostic equipment out, like multimeters, connectors, a bulb perhaps, and eyes, ears, touch, smell, use training, knowledge, experience, use thinking and common sense.  Have a look at the chap in the videos I linked to, he doesn't just rely on a scan tool - but there again he's not a KwikFit "area Master Tech", what a let down.

Perhaps a letter to KwikFit suggesting if they are unable to sort and complete the work you paid for perhaps they could get in an outside source who can or you do at their expense.  15 minutes is nothing to sort out balls-ups.
