vRS 245 groaning noise

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I’ve had my 2020 vRS 245 for a few weeks now, and noticed last night for the first time a groaning noise when in reverse.

I don’t have a video, but have found the same noise here on an R -

It seems to be a fairly common issue, but I’m still a bit worried nonetheless! I’ve been reversing it for a few weeks onto the driveway, so confused as to why it would start now.

Any ideas?

Is it a dsg or manual. sounds like it maybe something to do with clutch activation. Guessing its a dq381?

I'd be trying to pinpoint exactly where the noise was coming from.

If you have a device that records video with sound, lay it on the ground and reverse over it. (A GoPro would be great, but even your phone would be fine)

You'll be able to see at which point the noise gets loudest as you pass over the camera so you'll know where on the car the noise is coming from, and if it's a stereo recording, you'll be able to tell which side of the car it's coming from too.

It’s a DQ381 yes - it sounds to me like it’s brakes rather than clutch. My thought when it first did it was the hill start assist was being annoying on my driveway.

The problem I’ve got is it won’t do it now! It did it twice when parking yesterday, got my girlfriend to get out with the camera, and then it wouldn’t do it.

Dealer is looking into it, and I think I’ll have her record every time I reverse from now on! I suspect it’s rear brake related - it wasn’t doing it beforehand, and they had the rear caliper off to paint it last week.
