MK3.5vrs to MK4vrs... worth it or not?

Featured Replies

Thinking of upgrading from TDI MK3.5vrs to a petrol MK4 vrs...

A couple of things that I'm concerned about.... reading about problems with the touchscreen freezing and SOS going bang ? It's a 1 year old car I'm looking at, so I'm not sure if those problems would exist on a newer car, what is the touchscreen like to use, I'm pretty much a knobs and dials person haha
Also what's the ride like on those 19s ? My vrs has DCC with 19s, would I notice the difference?
So those of you that have gone from MK3.5 to Mk 4...was it worth it lol

I have mk4 vrs 4x4 diesel estate car since new july 2022 and have had no bother at all with it.

Yes, worth it.

Especially for the auto handbrake and ACC as standard, but only if it's a DSG.

I went from a 2018 RS TDI TO A 2023 RS tdi and so far I have not had one single problem . And like you I was sceptical about the touchscreen interface, but to be honest once you get used to the change it’s pretty easy to use and user friendly

If you are doing mainly city driving on your VRS, pls note the petrol variant fuel consumption is much higher. My mk4 rs tsi consume 11-12l per 100km around town.

Diesel would be at least 50% better than that.

Only on majority freeway/highway then the petrol variant can get much better fuel economy similar to diesel.

@EldridChapman Do you really believe that in City Driving the TDI is 50% better for fuel economy?

What kind of city is that, freeways and plenty flowing traffic?

(UK winters colder weather and cold starts compared to Singapore where 19*oC as a low is very rare, & UK were 31*oC is not common.)

Out on a motorway / dual carriageway in the UK doing the same speeds the TDI is considerably more efficient than the TSI.

Real World.

Driving in Singapore is just like around downtown London (lambeth/westminister etc). Traffic lights every 500m to 2km. We do have motorways but the longest is 30km and they have congestion during peak hours.

I thought that diesel can get at least 8l/100km while driving in these scenario.

In term of temperature, I would say it's for summer or warm day driving. I have no experience with winter fuel economy.

Touchscreen is OK now. It is not better then dials and knobs, but it is okay, plus you can talk commands to your Škoda, which also works decent.

I do prefer my old RS230 comparing to newer O4 Style, but you are opting for a RS, so... If you old car is tired, why not.

I moved from a MK3.5 vRS (petrol, without DCC), to a mk vRS 4 vRS (petrol, with DCC); happy with the change. Shame the one you're looking at doesn't have DCC, but I'm sure it'll ride fine in comparison to the one you have now. Like others have said, the screen/infotainment issues have likely been resolved by now
