CD player

Featured Replies

I've recently bought a MK3 VRS, fitted with an Amundsen sat nav media player. I've worked out that I should be able to swap it out with a similar unit which includes a CD player. I don't like the idea of having an external one as where will it sit.

On the screen on the dash, there's no CD player. If I change the unit will cd player appear in the media screen?

Thanks in advance!

I’m gonna just ask it, why bother with this effort? Put your CD collection on an SD card or USB drive. Cost is negligible and no changing CDs all the time.

“…as where will it sit.” - on the shelf in a charity shop, where it belongs.

No Amundsen has a CD player, you will need to upgrade the screen and glovebox unit  to a Columbus - and that will need component protection removing, coding and adaptation done -not cheap and if the only reason is to play CDs then I agree best to rip the CDs onto SD and use that.

Being pedantic 😡, the early one's like mine did have them. I've never used it tho, as an SD card is far more convenient.

I looked at the sat nav update site, entered my VIN and it said Amundsen

Would consider it if I could just replace the unit in the glove box but replacing the dash screen would likely be a pain

You need advice from an infotainment expert like @pab567 whether you can replace the glovebox unit with a Columbus and keep the same screen - even then there will be issues of component protection, coding and adaptation.
