Slipped timing chain

Featured Replies

Hello everyone I have recently had the misfortune of a major engine issues.

One morning it refused to start and would eventually run very roughly.

Fault scan returned faulty camshaft sensor.

After replacing the sensor made no difference I called the RAC out.

The patrolman diagnosed a slipped or stretched timing chain and said not to try running the engine until it's repaired.

Does anyone know if the slipped / stretched chain would result in damage to the valves , I intend to get garage who replaced an earlier chain 40,000 miles ago to do the work.

Last time the engine ran ok but only in limp home mode.

I thank in advance for any help received.

Is this the 1.2 3 Cylinder engine.

Yes it is the 1.2 3 cylinder engine

If it's the twin cam 70 bhp one, valve damage is extremely likely. If it's the single cam 60 bhp, slightly less inevitable.

I'm sure it is the single cam version, so fingers crossed that the valves are all ok
