Wrong oil used by garage? VRS 230

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I took my 230 to my local VW specialist for an engine oil and filter change today.

Looking at the invoice it looks as if 5W-40 VW 502.00 was used, looking through the previous owners receipts I can see 5W30 was used.

Should I go back to the garage and ask them (i dont want to seem like im causing trouble over nothing)

I have checked on previous posts and can see 5w40 mentioned but not sure if thats correct or not

Regards

Not a big issue vw ea888 gen3 depending on climate can use either with no real issues.

I've run both 5W30 and 5W40 in mine. no issues at all

If VW 502 00. 5w 40;full Synthetic that is not long life oil so for fixed / annual oil and filter changes 9,600 miles / 372 days.    ? Is the cars service indicated now set on Fixed servicing and no longer Variable / flexible? As it should be if using VW 502 00 with a TSI.

Ahh ok, I look to have to get it changed every 6 months or 5k miles in honesty, so it sounds like I should be ok :)

Do you take the car to the track or something.?  It is your money. Really a bit much though changing the oil and filter that often. Why not get a pump and do it yourself.

Can 502 be used with a DPF?

Is that not the major issue rather than viscosity?

It's not fitted with a DPF as it's petrol not diesel sorry

TDI,s are VW504 00 / 507 00.

then VW508 00 / 509 00.     Long Life oils even if Fixed Serving / oil changes.   So the 507 00 bit,  5w 30 FS III or 0w 30 III FS.

                                                                                                                                                     509 00.  0w 20 FS IV.

Don't do long life servicing it's a fake economy oil is life blood of an engine
